Car-mounted holster options.
The handle of my 1911 scratches my seat where it rubs, so I've been looking for a good solution to carry it in the car so it's more easily accessible if need be. A couple options...
http://www.texascustomholsters.com/ And look what kind of car it's mounted in! I do not like the screw-in mount, though.http://www.gumcreekcustoms.com/Unive...-Mount-p5.html ![]() Works in conjunction with most holsters.

I personally would want my weapon to remain concealed at all times so ^^ that wouldn't work for me, if I were to be stopped by a cop.

Obviously your state laws and personal preferences may vary, so I'm not going to tell you what to do
We can carry in cars without permits, but it has to remain concealed. My main worry would be a cop seeing it BEFORE I get a chance to tell them (you might try walking up to your vehicle from behind the way an officer would in a traffic stop to see how visible it is) I also prefer that my weapon stay concealed from my passengers as well (just my preference)..plus I have super long legs, and barely have enough leg room as it is. Have you considered mounting it under the seat? or lower to the floor board? |

Good point with the police officer. I figure hands out the window would be the most appropriate thing in that case, though. I've also toyed with the idea of having some holster mounted to the door pocket. Grab it with the left hand, put it in the right hand, open fire. Ideally, I'd like to grab with my right hand so no hand transferring takes place.

Under your seat is the best option, then practice drawing it. No offense but are you just trying to be a boss by carrying the 1911? Seems like your Smith would really be the better option in a quick draw from under the seat scenario. The 1911 safety is not ideal when you're drawing sideways IMHO. This wouldn't be an issue with the Smith. Just food for thought.

If not, how is he any safer by informing? If you inform, good chance you both will be less safe. If you feel disclosing makes him safer, make sure you tell him about your pocket knive, any bats or hockey sticks in the car... Oh yea and the tire iron. I'd suggest selling the gun if you aren't sure it won't misbehave and jump out then start shooting on it's own

It's not about being safe. It's about disclosure. By informing him/her up front, you're not going to let them get itchy by suddenly seeing a weapon. If you were walking up to someone for a traffic stop, and they say "hey, there's a gun under my wheel", they at least know it's there. And as long as you aren't reaching for the wheel, they'll appreciate it. However, if they walk up, see it and you don't say anything, they'll be a little more apprehensive, I would think.

Check out the RTI wheel from G-Code. It may work for your needs.

Being pulled out and cuffed until you are identified and confirmed to have a permit is much better than being drawn on by an officer that diddnt expect to see your weapon. If it is fully concealed I wouldn't say anything, but visable in a car mount I would calmly disclose.

1) I have an IWB holster for it that's actually worth a crap. 2) I'm far more accurate with it than I am my S&W. 3) I'd much rather hit them with cinder blocks than standard bricks. (Get the metaphor?) Quote:

Yep. "For your safety and my own, I want to let you know I have a permit to carry a concealed weapon and I do have possession of a firearm" or something to that extent. When I got busted for going over double the posted limit, I just simply handed him my permit with my license and insurance card. He thanked me for the honesty and went on to talk about not liking "surprises." I highly doubt he gave a crap whether or not I "sacrificed my rights" (as JonJon puts it).

If you're going to go for one of those I like the idea of the first one better (aside from the screws to mount it) but I like how versatile the second one is. I would probably try the steering column one first.

SPDSKTR,
Ever consider getting a medic kit box and stowing the 1911 in there? I'm assuming there is enough room for it to fit. You can then add foam and what not to make it secure, and have the handle sticking out to where you just grab with your right hand and in a simple motion swing up. And JonJon, in Ohio we are required by law to Inform...it sucks

One example of many why I'll never inform even if in a state that requires it, it will be a judgement call.
