quick clarification need: HPF kit 6speed and smg difference

i'm selling my HPF stg2.5 package (built block+turbo kit) and have a buyer who's car is a SMG.

The only difference between the 2 kits is the the SMG cars has a relocation kit for the SMG oil reservoir, yes?

TIA!

Oil pump bracket, lines, main harness, smg trigger unit, and tune are the differences.

Jumper box is the same for all kits I'm pretty sure. There is a SMG signal from the AEM to the jumper box which needs to be run. Tells the AEM to retard the timing between shifts. There is also a SMG (1 inch square black box) that is added tapping a single wire on the SMG factory harness. If u need I have the manual with the directions for SMG install. I could scan the SMG part. Here is what the SMG switch looks like. Click image for larger version

Agree with you we need to have the manuel instruction and find the differences between our SMG/MT

I think we need to run the AEM and check the map différences.

sy0296 can you help us ? is your AEM unlock ?

I have these informations for the conversion SMG-MT :

1. The tune on the EMS is different -> I need to run a MT map for see the differences
2. The main harness -> I need to have the MT instruction manuel for see the differences
3. SMG reservoir is removed -> no problem
4. SMG spoofer box is removed (and replaced with a different connector)

1 From what I understand (limited) the smg pin / wire on the aem taps into the smg signal from the factory dme... Then goes through a relay that tells the aem a shift is being made. That in turn retards the timing (-17 degrees hard coded in AEM) and then returns timing back to where it was. I believe hpf used the 2 step rev limiter in the aem and is used for shift points for the smg.. It would be good to confirm with someone's else's MT and SMG tunes.... I have the SMG tune so if someone wants to pm me ill compare them.

Here is a pic of how AEM uses 2 step with full throttle shifting. I think this is close to how r setup is with SMG and AEM 2 Step Rev... The relay I believe is the black box that HPF uses as an additional module ( as pictured in previous ) to the harness for SMG. The clutch switch in picture below i believe is the SMG slave circuit that is intercepted from the SMG/DME. Just my thoughts trying to figure this out in a dark room lol

Note: I just logged the 2 step rev limiter and went for a drive.... The logs show that the 2 step rev limiter is used when shifting the smg .... An example for timing is; prior to shifting the timing is 33 degrees then falls to 2 degrees at shift point and within 1 second returns to 33 degrees.... It s frequency is dependant on how quick the shift is.. For example .2 of a second timing drops and returns to base on hard acceleration....

*** IMO if a SMG tune was used on a std trans, the 2 step wouldn't trigger because its not wired in, so SMG tune and setup should work with no mods. If it is the other way around then the tune needs to have the 2 Step Activated and the relay wired in as per HPF manual and possibly a SMG signal wire added to the harness. I'm actually in the process of modifying a HPF AEM STD Trans configuration to an SMG setup myself. I have a AEM Generation 1 from a standard trans setup replacing my AEM Gen 1 SMG config.. I will post the details on how to actually make the std cfg work with smg in the next few weeks verses theory.

Gen 1 has two large connectors verses 3 smaller ones. This helps with the connectors from falling out and or pins loosening. Gen 2 has batt backup for locked AEMs so that the logs are retained when unplugged from the harness for remote diagnosing. Gen 2 has built in rs232 port for connecting to a pc or running a serial gauge or data logger/ display (needs to be unlocked) . Gen 2 has more signals shielded to keep the noise down. I'm not sure what changed internally to the AEM itself other than the actual pinout change.

A Generation 1 can be modified for batt backup and rs232 as well as the shielding in the harness if one should want. I had mine modified with these upgrades. So in the end there is not a lot of difference between the two from my limited understanding.
