Exhaust combo for CA

Which of these three will reach my goal?
-Pass CA smog
-MEAN SOUND NO RASP
-SAVE $$$

1. Aftermarket header / section 1 with 400cell cats + ar20s / stock section 2 / desired aftermarket exhaust

2. Stock header / weld two AR20s on sections 1 / stock section 2 / desired aftermarket exhaust

3. Stock header / rasp pipe / stock section 2 / desired aftermarket exhaust

Thanks!

Stock headers / UUC TSE3

Youll have trouble with aftermarket headers and smog.

You will fail smog with headers on visual inspection alone. Since the cats are in the stock headers removing/changing them means you automatically fail. You can pass with headers, but I haven't seen a 100% fool proof way yet.

Stock headers and whichever exhaust you prefer should pass smog. I've passed with my UUC TSE3 twice now. Once at a test only station.

What car is this for? I have a 328i with the 2nd resonator and muffler deleted. It sounds great and no rasp. You are more than welcomed to come by sometime and hear it. I'm off clinton keith and the 215

the m3 always has rasp imo. and if you change any of the sections, it just accentuates it more. maybe just stick to just an exhaust only?

best gains + the ability to pass smog would be aftermarket headers and built-in cats in section 1, that's the route im going. after that you can play around with resonators and muffler til you achieve the sound you want

what pricce range are we talking about with headers with built-in cats in section 1 and installation? Just out of curiosity. and I'm guessing this can't be done at a regular muffler shop?

Not if you change section 1. Get a good rasp terminator. Keep the rest stock. Then after market axle back. Whichever you choose. You'll be safe.

Anyone know a shop in socal that will pass smog tests? I am hoping to pass smog just by going to that shop and install ebay headers.
