I was also very curious to see what the outcome to this post was.

trive2: Have you got any further with this? Interestingly enough, it seems the Z4 does not have an AC condenser fan like us. So this one 600w fan is both the engine and ac fan. It would surely be enough cooling for us then coupled with our electric fan up front. Although, in theory, we could eliminate it completely and just run the Z4 fan.

I'm interested in this mod too! Anybody know what the parasitic load of the mechanical fan is?

I didn't give up - just put the project on the backburner due to other more urgent maintenance requirements and I've been busy with school stuff. I'll try to get to it this summer. I should search junkyards since it looks like the automatic Z4s also came with 600W fans...

Hmm really? You could probably just splice the existing wires. Or build some sort of an adaptor if you can find the part numbers for the connectors

The wire on the fan is much beefier than the wire on the connector, so we're going to hunt down a Z4 in a wrecking yard and nick it.

Any new updates on this project? I noticed the Z4M came with a 150amp alternator. Thats 30 more amps than the E46 M3.
