Well, Borbet is not some "fly by night" company. They have been around since the 70's, and they have supplied OEM wheels to German Manufacturers, so it is definitely not some Chinese company trying to pose as a real wheel manufacturer. They are a German Company, and their wheels are made there (and a few other countries). TUV certification tells you that they are definitely safe. So, to answer your question, they are a genuine wheel manufacturer, and their products are well made, and safe. I think they have just not modernized their styling, or they are not really interrested in the American market any more, but they were fairly well known back in the day.

Edit: You made me wonder about them, because I have not heard of them in years. But they do sell a few models at Tire Rack, and there are some other dealers out there too. It looks like they are making wheels for other brands (basically, you set up a company, design some wheels, and use Borbets factory to make them for you, which is more common than you think in the wheel business). They also have a plant in Alabama, which most likely means they are making wheels for Mercedes, since they build the MB SUV's down there.

Borbet wheels are quality. More popular with the older german crowd. These would look hot on an e36 and good on a e46, and for that price

I've seen that wheel type (smaller diameters) on several different cars in the last few years. So if they are able to survive Swedish roads for many years they should be ok

I like the clean look of those wheels!

My style 95s were made by Borbet. If BMW uses them for OEM wheels now, they're trustworthy.

Like the others have stated, Borbet = quality.
