A good friend of mine (user smolck on here) just purchased a Para-Ordnance 1911 Commander .45 ACP with an alloy frame. That thing is LIGHT! I expect it to be a snappy, jumpy gun, but for EDC, it felt perfect and conceals AMAZINGLY well (just slightly better than my full-sized 1911 due to the shorter barrel).

How much experience do you have with handguns? Do you currently own any?

You know, Reedo... my 1911 .45 ACP actually feels like it jumps less than my M&P 9mm (both with non +P rounds). I can keep a tighter group with it and the trigger, undeniably, is better.

1911s are excellent guns to shoot. The problem is ownership and maintenance.
Companies like ParaOrd, S&W and Springfield offer lifetime warranties on their pistols, which is a saving grace since most 1911s have very short warranties. If you buy a quality gun and are willing to send it in when necessary, that's fine. However, I see 1911s have a lot more problems than the other combat/duty pistols. It's a good gun, but not for novices. Again, I refer back to what Larry Vickers says:

Quote:
7. How do I know if a 1911 is the right choice for me?
That is a tough question as I feel most people are best served NOT using a 1911 as a primary sidearm. Two criteria come to mind a) A passion for the 1911 platform and b) you are willing to be your own armorer and can fix relatively minor problems or fit certain parts yourself. If you are the kind of guy that doesn’t mind tinkering with your Harley Davidson motorcycle to keep it running then you are a candidate. If however you treat your pistols like we all treat our lawnmowers then don’t get a 1911 – use a Glock.

love my glock, and my springfield, but have recently started shopping for something in a single stack for CC in warmer months. The double stack is just not comfortable for me inside the waistband. Maybe I should just lose 20 pounds instead?
