GROM questions

I'm curious to know if other GROM users with E46s get track listings or phone numbers to show up on the head unit display.
If so, what production date do you have?

I have a 9/02 330xi, Harmon Kardon, no nav. GROM IPD3, connected to my stereo (not trunk mount).
I have never had had info show up, except recently, randomly a phone number came up when a call came in.

Also, when I'm connected to my iPhone (in CD mode) I can't get it to display the clock, I just have to look at GROMYKO all the time. Very annoying. I'd like to have the clock there and be able to use my OBC for temp, mileage etc, especially on long trips. Any ideas?

Last, my iPhone connects to the GROM whenever I am close to the car, even with the ignition off. Is this a default, or did I somehow wire it wrong. I would think they GROM shouldn't be getting power with the ignition off.

As I've said elsewhere though, these are minor problems to me, overall I'm happy with the procduct and would get one again.

I've got the GROM BT-3 in my '05 330Ci with the HK and Business CD, and the track names have never worked for me. I haven't really noticed whether the phone numbers work or not. I'm pretty sure that feature doesn't work on our cars.

As far as the phone connecting when the car is off, I've noticed it will try to connect as soon as you unlock the car. I guess the power to the receiver is turned on when you unlock. Sometimes if you unlock the car while your phone is out of range it will fail to connect, and you have have to go back through the Settings>Bluetooth and reconnect to the GROM, which is a pain. So, I always wait to unlock my car until I'm right next to it.

But yeah, I love my GROM, generally speaking. I used to have a Dynavin and got rid of it. The GROM is much nicer since you can use your phone for navigation and use apps like Waze instead of the shitty iGo maps.

Hey CakeOD, I'm thinking about getting a grom unit. Do you miss Dynavin at all? Sometimes I'm all gun-ho about getting the the GROM BT-3 but then I consider getting a unit with a screen so I can easily manage the music on a usb drive, like the Avin2.

Personally, I haven't missed my Dynavin since I replaced it with the GROM.

The Dynavin touchscreen was terrible and had bad viewing angles and glare, the maps were terrible (and outdated since 2009), and the interface was pretty clunky, and the whole thing ran rather slowly.

My experience maybe a little out of date since I had a pretty old Dynavin, a D90, I think. I haven't kept up with all of the new models, so they may have fixed some of the issues since then. I know the screens are much nicer now and the whole thing is faster with a better interface now. I think you can get wifi and 3G now, which still doesn't seem that great to me as it would only work if you're near wifi or you pay for a data plan just for your car, which seems silly.

For me it just makes more sense to keep the stock receiver and add a GROM. It gives you a nice stealthy OEM look and you will always have the most up to date maps/traffic data on your phone and can you navigation audio and stuff like Spotify through bluetooth.

Mine does display track names and it's constantly scrolling which can be annoying/distracting. Honestly I wish I could turn it off. I can't see the clock either.
