I just got my ELM327 OBD2 device anyway. Just about to test it with the dynavin but I couldn't get it to show on any of the OBD apps I downloaded for my iPhone or ipad for some reason.
Even in the bluetooth settings on the iphone it wouldn't detect the OBD dongle which is a bit worrying. No instructions with it either, just a disc with some non android apps, some of which include keygens with them, the cheeky sods!!!

Will try it now and see if I can get it to speak to dynavin.....

Only thing disappointing so far is this ELM 327 dongle is pretty big, and I can't imagine I'll be able to just leave it plugged in like I'd planned on doing. Will have to live in the glovebox and just plug it in when I need it I guess.

*edit* works perfectly with Torque, although I'm not sure what the optimal settings are.
Like it though.

One thing I'm unsure of though with OBD dongle, is it has a red LED lit all the time its plugged in from what I can see. Even after I took the key out the LED was on.
Does this mean that even apart from likely kicking it when I get in & out of the car it'd be a bad idea having it plugged in all the time?
Ie, specifically does it draw power all the time it's plugged in??!
I was thinking of using an extension cable so I can tuck the dongle somewhere else. I also got the ELM 327 and it's pretty big. I've kicked it off a few times. But it does work well. I'm pretty sure that red LED draws very little power. I saw one on amazon.com that looks promising. Here is the link:

Good idea! Do you think it'd be possible to have it mostly hidden though when permanently installed?

Re' power, it's not so much the LED itself that I'm concerned about but if that is able to be on then it's also possible that the whole unit is drawing a fair bit of power.
Might be the case that the LED goes off after the key has been removed for a while but I didn't have long to hang around and wait to find out.

Would be nice to be able to leave it always plugged in and just be able to fire up Torque when I like, or even have it run by default in Android through Tasker or the like, but not if it potentially means a flat battery at some point!!

Any other decent OBD2 apps out there for Android that people would recommend?

Either way - so glad to have it working at last.

As i reported i'm using this ODB Dongle for almost one year now. I had it plugged in permanently for a long time (it just cane off when I kicked it off), because the Temperature Gauge on my car was broken and i was looking on ebay for a a new one for a while. It did not seem to bother the batterie at all.

Edit: P.S. This extention cable looks nice. Maybe I'll try it out.

Hi all,

did anybody test this IBus to USB adapter ?

It can connect the IBus wire (white wire in Dynavin cable) directly to the USB port.
A driver for Android is available.

No need to connect a dongle or a cable to OBD2 port.

Very handy to know that, thanks! Did you ever have to leave the car several days without running the engine?

I may get one of those cables, although I can't picture offhand whether the angled end or straight end would plug in the OBD socket. Hopefully the angled end or else it'll still protrude!

Is there an easy space to access where the cable and dongle can be tucked out of the way? Mine is E90 so it might be different to you guys anyway I guess.

Would it not be simpler to just remove the OBD connector from its clips and leave it and the OBD permanently behind the cover (no kicking) no protruding

- First boot after flashing a new ROM should take no more than 5-10 minutes.
- After successfully booting into Android you can reattach all wifi bluetooth and sdcards and use normally.

If you are still having problems with the blank screen

- First thing to check after powering on is to check if your wifi dongle is getting power and the led light is on. Some of the black blank screen could be the Android side is not even powered on while the radio side is on and working normally. If this happens power off wait 1 minute and power back on by tapping the power button.

I did all of these stepes. Without success. Finally i even was waiting over night before i was resatrting the Dynavin after flashing - did not helo.

I always us the sd card wich cane with the dynavin. I tryed to flash with files i had unpacked with winzip, winrar on a win7 system and i also tryed it with fioles i unpacked with unrar on a linux debian system.
Always the same result - black screen after reboot.

Do u have any suggestions?

Yesterday o got my new active usb hub (EXSYS EX1184HMV). It is very handy, because it can be directly connectet to the 12V of the car with a t-block where two cables (12v and GND) can be connected to.
The hub has a metal case which has wholes so it can be fixed with screws.
Here is a link to it

I have now the WIFI dingle, a Bluetooth Dongle and a 32GB USB stick connectet to it. All three are working fine and get reconnected after booting automatically. I got the power for the hub from the radio, so it has power, when the radio gets turned on.

Tested and working

Hub: http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPa...duct_Id=608492
BT Adapter: http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPa...duct_Id=398674
OBDII: Generic ELM327 1.5 BT

I bought the Belkin hub for 14.99 and the BT dongle for 4.99. I have not tried anything else, they just worked right out of the box. I paired the BT dongle to the OBD II BT port and it works perfectly.

Any suggestions on getting TORQUE gauges to update quickly? I have removed a lot of the dials and that seems to speed things up.

Cheers,

Razvan

Al-djazair just want to make sure I get this right... are you saying that instead of needing a bluetooth adaptor and a bluetooth ODBII unit that this cable will connect directly to the D99 (through the USB GPS cable/hub) and allow Torque to read the car directly?
This sounds a lot more streamlined than the bluetooth method, can this be confirmed?

Hi CTRob,

you're right.

That's what I hope, but I'm not sure. I'd like to have some infos before ordering it. I think that M3Evolution have one (see this post).

You need a BT adaptor. Notice this OBDII: Generic ELM327 1.5 BT which is required.
