Re: **Official GOLF Thread**

Pics from the course I play on Tuesdays....same pics are in my DITL thread. You can see it it adjacent to a small regional airport so there are private jets, props, and helicopters taking off while you play...pretty cool imho.

Finished up 15 holes this afternoon, it got cold and windy towards the end so we decided to head in. I was able to play at a friends private course which was pretty difficult. Driving the ball like a champ and my iron play has been pretty stellar. My short game is killing me though. Cant hit a wedge shot (under 60 yards) for my life. Front nine - 48, back six - 33. So definitely played better towards the end. My goal is to break 90 consistently this summer. I know I am capable of shooting 86-88 every round.

I'll post a picture of the BMW Motorsport towel I just got in the mail

first round of the year yesterday, shot a 43, first and third hole really messed me up, had to drop a ball on the third hole but the last five I got par and 1 bird, so not to bad for the first game. itching to get out again now.

need to pick up some new drivers... anyone have recommendations? I'm a big Taylor Made fyi.

I live in Richmond but I usually play in laytonsville Maryland. When I do play in Richmond, it's usually at Richmond country club.

Thanks.. shipping costs kick my ass on that site though... I can turn around a buy locally and almost get the same price. I'm looking into the TM superfast, friend had a set when we played on Sunday and he said he really liked them.

any other opinions on woods? I am open to other brands too.

Thanks.

I have the 3.0 burner 3W from Dicks... honestly, I love this club. I am hitting it very well... to the point where I am not using a driver. However, I will be getting a driver soon, which might just end up being the 3.0 before they run out. $150 right now from Dicks.

Everyone I know hitting the R11/R11S and RBZ loves them and is hitting bombs off of the tee. My league partner probably added 20 yards to his drive with the R11.

Get the R11s or the new R1 if you feel like being a baller. There isn't much difference between them, R1 will get ~5 yards more, but it has 160+ settings.

I'm the only one out of my friends who has the R11s, but everyone noticed a difference when I started using it. My shots are straighter and longer

I try not to get into the "hype" of all the latest and greatest clubs. I usually get hand-me-downs or buy from the used rack. Just grip it and rip it!

I love my Titleist 905 driver (9.5 degree from 2005) & 904F 3 wood. They cost around $50-75 bucks now, I think I bought mine used from golfsmith for $100. I've hit various drivers and woods, but I constantly go back to my Titleist ones. Though the TaylorMade RBZ rescue is a very nice club to have in your bag. I dont have it and still revert back to my Cleveland Launcher but I wouldn't mind snagging up that RBZRescue club.

tested out a used TM Superfast (black top) yesterday, and switched up my swing a bit - I am always to open on my club face and playing a fade/slice, I have learned to play it well but I know I am losing a lot of yards... anyway, switched it up a bit and was hitting strait 275's all day, the TM is a lot easier to swing then my old fat shaft Purespin... but at the same time, with my tweaked swing, I was hitting 250+'s with my old club, so I am not too too sold. might check out an RBZ or something else. the local golf shop just recently closed here, so I have to check out Golf Town next time I take a road trip.

Anyone know about getting clubs "custom" fitted? I'm considering new irons and I've always felt that my current set is about 1-1.5" shorter than would be ideal. I've been playing the same set of Big Bertha's since I was 15 (I'm 31 now ) so I've grown since I started playing them.

I'm 6'3", so I feel like I should check if a "stock" set of irons are an appropriate fit or if I need to have them adjusted to fit me.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Technology makes a huge difference. Before I switched to my R11s, I was using a 2005 Taylormade driver (not sure which one). Every single drive would slice, and I mean EVERY single one. When I switched to the R11s and tuned it to my specs, I rarely sliced and I would hit 20-30 yards further. Everyone I played with noticed the difference.

I used to do the same thing (open club face), until I got the R11s and adjusted it to stay closed, now I rarely slice it. Does the Superfast have settings? If not I would definitely go for the R11s > Superfast 2.0 if I were you. Especially now that the R1 came out and the R11s prices dropped.

I know at Dicks Sporting Goods you can get them custom fitted. But a lot of the newer irons are already a bit longer than they used to be. I use the Taylormade Burner HT (high trajectory), and I feel as if they are a little long at times and I'm 5'10".

EDIT: This is the course that I play (flyover hole-by-hole) https://www.mcggolf.com/LaytonsvilleFlyover.aspx
