Is this plug and play to put into another car?

If your car is prewired, yes it is plug and play. Most e46's are. You should have the prewired for cell symbol the inside of your trunk.

Thanks. I read somewhere that all E46s after 2002 are prewired. I'm not picking up the car until next week so I don't have access to the trunk right now. It's a 2004 M3 vert for my wife.

They most likely are!! However, who knows what BMW does at times. That's why I said look and make sure. If its an 04, I'm sure it is though.

How tough is the install? As I understand it the module goes in the trunk, but where does the mic go? Do you have to pull the dash apart? Does the dealer have to do any programming?

Thanks!

Install isn't difficult really. TCU goes on the left side of the trunk (under the carpet/cover). The mic is located overhead where your front interior lights are. There is a spot on the opposite side of where the sunroof control is (of course you don't have a sunroof but you get the picture). You can take a butter knife or screw driver and pop the plate off. The mic wiring is already there, just plug the mic in and slide it onto the plate you popped off. Slide the plate back on and mic is ready. The bluetooth ant is made to install under your center console. removing your rear ashtray/storage spot is where its "factory" location is. The connector is under your cup holder, which just pops out. However, I just installed mine in the trunk attached to the under side of my rear deck lid.. haha... In my mind (as small as it may be) I thought attaching it to metal would give me greater reception. It works perfect for me where it is but I'm sure either is fine.

No dealer coding is need. You just need to pair the phone. There are plenty of DIY's and youtubes on how to do it. It takes about 30 seconds to do yourself... Needless to say, none of it is difficult and if it takes you more than 30 minutes to install all of it, you either shouldn't be working on a car at all or you took 5 too many beer breaks.....

CCagle, I am interested in this but I need to put it in a 2000, its has the pre-wired for cellular tag in the trunk, what wires should I check for to be able to use this? Is it compatible with this year?

If you have the prewired tag you should be fine. It should fit 99 and up. So you shouldn't have any issues. Let me know if you're still interested.

Still for sale? I've got a convertible so other than the mic all the other parts are the same right?

Depends on the year but if it's a 99-05 it should fit.
