Check your tool set in the trunk, you should have a key to try and manually turn the sunroof motor. The key is item 13 from here

Here is a quick picture of the motor, after you open up your switch covers. Turn the green one.

Give that a try ...

Press and hold the sunroof button in as if your going to tilt it for 30 sec. This will reset it. I had this probably a couple of weeks ago

this happend to me too, I dont remember how I closed it but in mine I took the cassette down cause the wire that moves has come out thru a crack, I was able to make it go in the canal is supposed to and then I made little holes around it with a small drill and kinda sew it with a wire(actually a old clothes hanger). the cassette itself is like $600, i had fix mine with just some effort and a hanger!!! Is been about a year now and it works perfectly!

yeah your cassette is probably whats messed up. bmw wanted $4,000 to fix or $2,000 to just close it. i looked up a DIY and 4 hours later had my cars interior all taken apart, took apart the cassette and well mines broken. simply put everything back on the tracks and placed everything back up. dont feel like spending money on a cassette since i rarely used my sunroof as was so just unpluged my sunroof motor so no one ever mistakenly opens it getting it stuck again...

i got my cassette replaced on my sunroof a little over a year ago. it worked great, until yesterday. I got in my car, (2003 325xi) when to hit the botton and it just clicked-- one time. Up, forward, backward- every direction, every time, i would push the botton and it would just click once, and nothing would happen. I took it to a mechanic, he said the motor was shot. asked for about $400 plus bucks!! i went online, motors arnt too expensive. my question is, is this a simple/manageable DIY project. if i just buy the motor myself and install it? is there a possibility I could run into a something else wrong with it-- maybe a common related issue?

ive been trying to find a nice DIY link for motor issues but im having difficulty finding someone who has had a similar problem
