This was a impulse buy a few years back. 1919 government model sold to the argintine army as part of a 500 pistol shipment. Theres only 4 documented survivors...

At first the answer seemed obvious. But then one of four...
OP I do not envy the decision you have to make or had to make. That's a toughie. I have an old S&W M&P from pre-1913 as their archivist said the number was genuine but they had no records of it immediately available. All it gets is CLP and a place in the safe. Gift from a family friend who had no idea what it was.

if you're keeping it for personal use, restore/keep it as is whichever you want. If you're keeping it for values sake and to make a profit some day, leave it unrestored.

Hahahaha that's great
I continue to be envious of your collection; I love the old school stuff. Call me what you want, but after seeing Titanic, I've wanted one of those engraved nickel 1911s with the ivory/pearl grips ever since.

Ohh yeah, I'd go to jail for it, no question. I think I might be scared to make a move like that though, with the amount of guns in that family haha.

American Guns... so sorry! Sons of Guns chick is fappable at best. (I think I'd still smash just for the fame factor...
)

That is something you leave in a case. Get a Rock Island Armory to play with. Just saying what I would do. Oil it and protect it. The gun has history and a story.
![]() EDIT: Someone like me who was in the military would have special appreciation for that weapon. Treat it right. To others....just a worn 1911 that is ugly. Please do not refinish it. Value wise...I do not think there is very much in that gun besides history.

Refinishing it is out of the question, I have others to play with.
