My coolant level light came on as well yesterday. ..I also have 1900 miles till inspectionii I have 149k on the clock, am I in danger? my oil light is also indicating yellow.. should I shell out the 400+ since bmw changes these amongst other fluid or is it better to by parts and change them.. quick question I know it doesn't belong here but what actual work is done on inspection ii

There are better sites.

Condition of car strongly depends upon how much TLC previous owners gave the car.
I have '04 with 100k and OFHG doesn't leak and PS hoses look great.

No one here would touch an M56.
Did you know what it was before you purchased?

From your post my guess is you aren't that familiar with your car, so I'm going to assume you have less knowledge than I do, which isn't much.
I'm no expert but, if your coolant light came on, you at the least need to get some BMW or approved coolant in there ASAP, like today. You're risking frying your engine.
Your mileage is irrelevant once a light comes on.
Did you check your oil level? Make sure you add a BMW or approved synthetic oil.
If you're totally in the dark, just go to a BMW parts department and get those fluids, have make, model and VIN# with you when you go in. They will sell you the correct fluids. You can figure out a less expensive place to purchase later. Right now you need to address your issues and can't wait for shipping, if it's your daily driver.
You can Google BMW Level II Inspection to find out what it is, or search this site.
Stinger9 is correct, mileage doesn't matter, it's wholly dependent on how it the car was maintained. My wife was a service writer for a dealership. She's had people develop a minor leak, not address it and blow an engine in less than 50,000 miles. Pull out the manual and check all your fluids. If a manual is not with the car, you can find it online. You need one for the glove box.
Don't open the radiator cap while the car engine is still hot, you will scald yourself.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

How about you start by checking your coolant level and oil levels...

I checked my oil levels, it showed OK .. it vane on when I hit a pot hole. . So I pulled over by the nearest part store and poured 2qts oil.. seems how they will change at inspection. . The coolant light came on during a cold morning. ..I read my manual it said that if I restart and it showed again top off or get to the dealer.. otherwise check not be cautious during driving for temperatures.. something of that nature. . Could I just add distilled water or use my due car and purchase the proper coolant. . As for inspection as wondering if 1900 miles had something in common as to previous owner anything the dealer did was up to par..sorry for sounding foolish.. I may have not been specific

When I bought it with extended warranty had it inspected by 2 bimmer service facility and my mechanic,
Thay only concluded just power steering hose from pump to rack was sweating.
After a month gave the warranty back and reimbursed visit to dealer cause of a window regulater.
Service history is just rear shocks and mounts, belts control arm bushing and oil change
Bought it with 55 k 2. owner

Thanks for your time

At 208f ..bare I mind I had to previously place distilled water in for a day which is today and haven't placed the proper coolant ad of yet.. The light came on indicating it was low as mentioned previously. . But any help from you guys would be appreciated. . I have been slimming through my manual as well

For our sake give it a go using the hidden OBC functions instead. Should be 95 degrees C, but no more than a degree or two more.

We know which ring you are talking about.
What happened to it?

You'll not find it listed separately.
I think there is a thread somewhere that spec's all the O-rings.

Or go to dealer? There are no miracles on a Sunday night.

I'm with Stinger, if Dealership is close, and it's an inexpensive part, use them. Shipping and time difference will make up for the price difference. Don't forget your vin#.

You have to bring your vin number when buying something at a dealership? May be a dumb question but I stay away from dealerships so first time going. Do all my work myself.

Sometimes they ask, but generally I go with the part number I want and insist on buying that. But I know my serial number anyway. It shouldn't be required though. Part number that you want is all you need.

Always a good idea to have the last seven digits of your VIN with you in case there is any confusion.

You don't have to have it, but they can use it to check for correct part number as same year and models may have different part numbers.
I let them get what their system shows, then compare to my part number. If there's a discrepancy I want to know why. Some parts are changed or upgraded occasionally.
