I picked one of the 9mm models up awhile back. It's my first handgun and so far I love it. I find it very comfortable to shoot and it fits just right with the extended 8 rd mag. I can't attest to it's accuracy yet because I haven't shot enough to be a decent shot myself lol. after about 80 rds through it though I can't complain one bit.

But if I had to nit pick I find that the slide release can really take some force some times, I'm assuming it'll wear in once I get more mags through it.

That's pretty common for new guns. The best thing to do is to get out of the habit of using it for releasing the slide and grasp over the top and pull it back to release the slide on loaded mags or no mag.

Yup, the time you spend applying the force to the slide stop = about the same amount of time it takes to just quickly reach up and put the slide back and release. not to mention that after inserting the fresh mag; your hand is already there.

You're also getting a more positive force that's chambering the round. this could be critical in a gunfight. Youre loading the recoil springs even further by pulling back in the slide which equals more pressure exerted forward once released. All that goes to make sure that round finds its home in the chamber.

Anybody find websites that ever have these? Or will most shops let you put your name on a list and wait a couple weeks?

When they first released I was seeing them everywhere around me. Now there isn't a single one to be found.

I also may think about waiting for the second gen as I wish it came with a rail.

Last conversation with S&W rep was that the factory is pumping out Shields at capacity. Something like 300 a day, or something like that. I forgot the approximated number, but it was pretty high. They're so far behind right now it's ridiculous. I have put off all hopes of getting a Shield before summer 2013.

I put some rounds through a 9mm Shield on Tuesday. It's too small for me, and I really like the feel of my G19 better. My friend was at the shop to purchase a G26 though, and he ended up buying the Shield.

I think I'm going to have to go rent a shield, m&p 9, glock 19 and 26 and buy one this year to carry at work, I think it might be a little hard to conceal my 226 all year.

Shoot straight has like 8 locations...each time I've gone into the Tampa location, they've told me to pound sand. They could very well have one at another location; hell, I think FGE in Daytona or Shooters in Jax might have one too, but I haven't been too concerned about tracking one down. I'm still trying to deal with this sig scam at the moment...

glock 26 with 12 round mag feels very similar to a 19. I have both. The advantage of course, is that the G26 can become smaller and the G19 can't.
I really like the G26 for carry, but I want a safety.

Ill have to see if I can get myhands on one with a 12 round mag. I'm leaning towards a 19 or m&p 9. I have big hands and don't really know if I would want something smaller then those, going to try them all out though, I might end up really liking the smaller ones.
