Only the 2002 330i? The N54 stuff makes sense.

Excellent - the '03 330 is fine, but the '03 325 is not. I'm going to assume they have absolutely no idea how similar those two cars are.

I'm willing to bet not enough people have popped their cooling systems on later year 325i/330i's to make this list. They'll be there soon enough though.

If you gave a **** what CR recommended for you to drive, you would be in a Toyota. I could not care less what they think about cars.

They don't do any actual research, they just gather owner's "reliability/satisfaction" data.

Hey guys, I don't care either, but that being said they're RIGHT. We're talking about reliability in used cars and BMW in the same sentence. I wouldn't wish a used E46 on my worst enemy.

Don't be a semi-braindead car owner and the E46 is an excellent car. My fiance is driving my E46 with 223k miles on it because I'd much rather maintain that than some random American car which she used to have until the autotragic trans blew up.

TL;DR: BMW reliability is good. People think they suck because they wait to fix stuff until after it goes horribly wrong. Then they get butt raped by the dealer because they are dumb.

Maintain the car and it should treat you very well. If you want something you can beat the crap out of and spend no time or money maintaining then look elsewhere.

But they sure are fun to drive! they put a smile on my face EVERY time I get behind the wheel of any of the 4 I have & the 7 I no longer have. But those plastic cooling components sure do suck. Should be considered a maintenance item like changing the oil....Just sayin. I've blown 4 plastic radiators out of the 11 BMWs I had.

I would not suggest my daughter buy a 10 year old BMW. But I'm glad I did!
