Lost M3 key

Lost my key today; after getting a flat! Bad day, anyone figure out a low cost way of getting a new one. I do get wholesale prices at BMW but would like to see if there are any other options..

Just got one for under 60 on eBay, uncut, blank, and ready to be programmed. Dude gives good instructions on the steps to program...my buddy owns a shop and thinks he can do but if he can't I will have them do step 3 after programming the remote and getting it cut. Dealer will assign code to allow it to actually start the vehicle.

Cool keep me updated I'm really interested in your outcome. Since I have no spare I ordered the plastic master key for $41 it's small n it's a good backup.

Our keys don't get programmed they get initialized. The dealer will not be able to "program" the key because it did not come with your vehicle specific code. Sorry but waste of money.

My understanding was that the module in the car can store up to 10 unique codes and there is a free code from this new remote in that module to start the car. The initialization is done using the existing key and a sequence of button presses so the remote functions work...my buddy who owns a shop says he's done it b4 but I see u r a tech at BMW so....

I recall (maybe one of our sponsors?) advertising keys, and having to email a photocopy of yoyr registration (with vin) to get one.

I bought the master key which is a small plastic wallet key which I've been using. Been busy at work haven't looked into a different way out. As of now only way I know is $141 through BMW and for me it's not worth risking it to save $50 bucks.

Patrick at BMW Parts Source...aka Lancaster BMW is a sponsor on this forum and gets you vehicle specific OEM blanks for $160 shipped which is 10% over dealer cost.
His name is Patrick Casey and he is great to deal with imho.
Just an FYI

My car only came with 1 key, which kind of made me a touch nervous. A couple of weeks back, I called up the dealer and the next day they had a brand new one for me. I gladly handed them the $170. I wouldn't go through the hassle of a blank to save something like 10 bucks.
