Where to buy 4.10 ring and pinion?

It's for my 2004 330ci with LSD. I've found one website and it was $800. Anyone know of some places I can look?

Koala?? I bought the car with it. I have 3.46 now and I don't see 4.10 being an issue. I may settle for 3.90 or something.

If you have a Koala diff, just send it back to Brett and let them rebuild it with whatever gears you want to run (he warranties his builds).

You have an auto or manual? If manual, the 4.10 does seem a bit short IMHO - I'm running a 3.64 and can't imagine going any shorter in a daily driver. Of course, I've also got a lot more low and mid range torque with my TS than you do with the centri and I know that's what you're trying to compensate for.

Ya it's a 6 speed. I have no low end torque and that's exactly why I'm doing it. According to the gearing calculator I used it shouldn't be to bad. I don't do a lot of highway driving and I mostly cruise around about 50 mph. I'll check out kaola. I don't really want to be without a car for any extended period of time either.

I don't know, why don't you just ask.

3.91 = 13%

4.10 = 18.5%

Good luck,
Rob.

PS, tell Dan I say hi.

Last I checked Dan can hook you up with a well-priced 3.64 gear set at a good price

I had a Chevy s-10 that I swapped out the 3.42 gears for a set of 3.73 and I literally could not tell the slightest bit of difference. I felt as if I wasted time and money.

That's almost a 10% change in the diff ratio. When I went from the stock 3.07 to a 3.23 (about 5%), the difference was very noticeable. When I went from 3.23 to 3.64 (over 12%), the difference was huge.

FWIW... you probably didn't notice much difference in the S-10 because the transmission itself was probably geared much taller than in the BMW. For example, 1st gear is 4.35 for the e46 6-spd. GM used a number of different transmissions for the S-10 with 1st ranging from about 2.75 to 3.49 depending on application. The shorter gearing in the BMW transmission is going to multiply the diff ratio change making whatever % change in the diff ratio that much more noticeable than the effect you got in the S-10 (remember, the final drive ratio is the product of the transmission and diff ratios). An X% diff ratio change still results in an X% change in final drive ratio but 10% of 15 is going to be larger than 10% of 10.
