Exclamation Steering noise

Well very recently my car has started a very load grind/moan when turning the wheel at lower speeds. I checked the fluid and it was very cloudy, so I changed the fluid and it is still grinding... I figure the pump is bad, but i don't want to buy a power steering pump just to find out its something else. Also grinds when not moving at all. any advice will be appreciated. I have read numerous threads about similar situations, but none that really have my same conditions. most of theirs are steering one way or another, or in the diff or something. Thanks in advance.

First step is to replace the PS reservoir. By one that's oem, made by ZF. The filter in the bottom of the reservoir can become clogged.

So until I can grab a new reservoir, I figured I'd take mine out and try to clean it the best I could. So I removed it, sprayed with some brake clean, and I blew threw the filtered outlet on the reservoir, and it has seemingly good flow. could be something inside that I'm missing but I don't think that's it. Also had someone move the steering wheel and it doesnt sound like it is coming from the pump. Again, could be wrong.

Any resolution on yours?

Mine's doing the same thing, mostly when it's cold.

It sounds like a single sour note played on a cello. It's there at dead-center, louder when the wheel is turned. Goes away around 2500 RPM. Sometimes it comes back when I slow down, sometimes it doesn't.

Just for anyone with the same problem, I relpaced the pump and noise went away and steering feels 100% better. Sad day, but at least all is well now.

I may have to replace mine soon. I'm hearing noise especially at speeds below 5mph on an incline. What was your mileage when you replaced yours and how much did it cost you?

Mine is making the same noise. I had a feeling it was the pump or rack. Glad to hear a new pump worked for you. I'll be replacing this with the reservoir and a leaking pressure hose before winter gets here.
