My mother was in a Waffle House which was potentially about to be robbed...

She and her new saleswoman were sitting in a Waffle House this morning to grab some quick breakfast when an old Ford sedan backed into a parking spot right by the front door. She said her gut did a flip-flop right then. Two men are in the car, one of which storms into the restaurant, flinging the door open. She notices the man in the car was on his phone, continuously looking over his shoulders and scanning the area.

My mother's back is to the register and the front door, but she was looking over her shoulder until he gave her a bad look. She couldn't hear what was being said at the register, but there were firm tones of voice. After a profanity or two, she reaches in her purse (under the table) and...

"It's at home! SHIT!" she thought to herself.

Yep... she left her .38 revolver my step-father and I bought her for Christmas at the house.

Suddenly, two police cars pull up and block the potential perps' car in. The police jump out, one secures the vehicle and the other secures the man in the restaurant. They both end up in the back of a police cruiser and are taken away.

What the situation was prior to Waffle House is unknown, but my mother is pretty sure the police were right behind them to begin with. She said the time from when they pulled up to the time the police arrived was within two minutes.

Anyway... moral of the story: NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT! I know she won't anymore.

Good that she didn't get hurt.

Wow, pretty scary. I cannot believe how absurd the CA gun laws regarding conceal carry are. So glad I am outta here in a week.

Funny you say that... my girlfriend is dying to move to California. I don't think she quite understands how serious I am when I say I am NOT moving out there.

What's the deal wiff Waffle houses and violent crimes lately? Must be the Maple syrup

Coincidentally, my wife just got admission into grad school in Cali and starts in August.....I will likely be moving out there later this year (yay)

My wife knows that if she ever tries to move to Cali, I'll be living across the border in AZ or Nevada.

Meh, like tons of other Pro 2A folks who find themselves in Cali, it's a tradeoff I'm willing to make in the interest of other goals.....I've also been feeling pretty bored with Austin over the last few years, so this is actually a welcome break for me

In this case, the Program she wanted is only offered out there......plus she works in a very niche industry that is only present in a few cities in the U.S (the other choice was Boston), so it just makes the most sense.

Looking forward to it actually (ask me again in a year though)

Agreed. I will continue to support CGF and 2A right in CA but it's too nice here to leave!

This thread motivated me to do what I've been meaning to for a long time: order my new holster for my G19. In production now, should see it sometime next week.

Having lived in both I suggest AZ, way better gun laws down here.

I'll be honest - I like LA. It's a lot of fun, the weather's unbeatable and the girls are pretty hot. That said, there isn't a place where I wish I had my gun tucked iwb more than LA. For example - I live in Pasadena....I didn't realize north pasadena had a huge blood problem. ALso, my buddy lives downtown - bums are harmless for the most part, but once you have a bum harass you for money on the walk home you can't help but get a little nervous. Lastly, d*mn GPS tried to save me time on my drive to LAX by routing me through Inglewood (up to no good) and saving me 15 minutes.

I'm excited about getting back to colorado. They have weather there, there are good women anywhere but most importantly I can go about getting my ccw renewed.

Correction to my mother's recollection of the events that unfolded: There were FIVE police cruisers that pulled up. By the way she described it, I had imagined two. I wonder what the hell these guys did to summon five police cars.

Good choice. I have one, and I love it. Only flaw with mine is that I should have gotten the 'slide' version, rather than the g19 version.
