Help!!!!! smg problem!

Hey everyone, I need some serious advise. Well I drive a 2004 m3 with SMG and yesterday it was around 100 degrees in Chicago and I noticed my service engine light come up to , took it to auto zone and pulled up a P1717 code. Basically it shifts into neutral by itself and every time I put it into gear it makes an electronic noise...any advise?

Yes!

Google BMW OBD code p1717. One of the links is to a thread in this forum.
Search this forum with the same topic and also use SMG problems as a search topic.

Always look first and then ask if you can't find anything.

Update: I just put a new salmon relay in and it fixed the problem. Doesn't drop gear into neutral and service light went away. These forums are very helpful thanks everyone. Keep calm and m3 on

That won't fix the issue. Once it's hot, it will drop out of gear again.

I've read a few threads saying that its a good idea for the mod and also a few saying to just replace the temp sensor...

That won't help since the sensor is located in a HOT area of the engine. I did this mod 5 years ago and my car never had the issue again. Not going to like it when your car drops out of gear in traffic and you can't move while people are honking at you holding up traffic. Happened to me..
