I am glad we were both okay. I don't have access to the car, I drove it to a body shop right away and dropped it off. It ran and drove perfect still, aside from some rubbing from the back wheel. We'll see, I saw two cars I may be interested in last night, will post links later for some advice.

Found a couple of 330s in the area:

http://tinyur l.com/bpaa7rc
low mileage pretty reasonable price.

http://tinyur l.com/7auel6e
the mileage is higher, and so is the price. Getting into m3 price range for only a 330. But it is stick and a ZHP from what I can tell.

Lastly, an M3 i came accross.

http://tinyur l.com/bpasfkp
Very affordable m3, but has 140k miles. Obviously would have to look into all three get a ppi etc. But from the looks of it the m3 is in very good condition.

For the record, fender refers to the guitars

So, 7600 dollars in damage at this point. But still has yet to check the integrity of the B pillar. He has to wait until the adjuster comes out though since they want photos before he cuts into it. He thinks 90% that it'll be a total loss. Unfortunate, I loved that car.

Looking at cars daily, above links are best I've come accross. Definitely want a black exterior/interior, m3, or 330i coupe. The 325i was a good introduction, but would love to upgrade. The m3 is very affordable, but the only thing that concerns me is the milage, but it looks like a fellow fanatic was caring for the car its entire life.

Also, I hear all the time about how much more expensive the car is to maintain, and was wondering if there was anything in particular that causes this aside from just sheer parts cost. I am ready to DIY quite a bit.

Thanks for any help!

Take the settlement money and buy a new car.
Definitely a write off, but +1 on this!

Well, got word yesterday that the car is not a total loss...I'm so confused. He told me the value of the car is about 10 grand, and the estimate he gave, the allstate agent, was about 6000. Talked to the body shop today, and he told me he had a green light up to 8700????? That's 87%, that's insane. The gentleman at the body shopped assured me that the car will be back to it's original condition, if not better, so guess I'm getting my car back. Mixed emotions, but I do love my car, 330 will just have to wait a year or so.

Wow - seeing that damage I'm very surprised they're going to fix it.
Bad part now is going to be the CARFAX report showing the wreck, but at least it won't be a salvage title.

Grrrr careful mate, I think someones pulling the wool over your eyes. If they're hiding even marginal chassis damage it wont be the same...

Well its more or less out of my hands at this point. The shop has very good reviews and the owner is a legit, honest guy.

So I think your car can be repaired to the point where you'll have your car back exactly like you thought of it before.
Only reservation is I'll leave the knowledge of the B pillar to the pros.

Car would be a write off if the B pillar would be damaged, by the pictures, I say it's close.

If the rear door isn't wedged, open it and see if the pillar is untouched.

If it is, hit the used car market. If it isn't, hit the yellow pages and find a body shop.

I had 8000 dollars of repairs done to my car after a accident a couple of years ago. I know the car was only worth 4k at the time I was at a lost for words when it did not get totaled.

The car's been repaired, this thread is from May. The final talley on damages was round 9700 dollars. B pillar was slightly damaged but repaired and I was assured the car would be in outstanding condition, and it was. I forget it was ever hit.

Curious, what is the insurance company that is so stupid to fix 10+ years old car with price tag max 7000 for almost 10 grands?
