Lifter ticking at track

I get a pretty loud lifter tick noise after a hard session on the track.

I currently use M1 0W40 but am wondering whether I should be using something a little thicker like the Castrol 10W60 that the Ms use to prevent the tick and also so the oil doesn't thin or shear at track temps.

What do you non-M guys use in your engine at the track?

I use Mobil 1 15W50 in everything from M30s to my M54. My first M30 went 250k miles with at least 500 autocross runs and 100+ hours of track time before the timing chain let go. All that track time was on Mobil 1 15W50.

I used M1 0w40 and Motul 10w-40...didn't work out so well after 115k miles. But...the engine looked good internally except for the big hole in the block.

Sounds like you were happy with running M1 15W50 at the track/autocross.

Might have to give it a try to see if the lifter tick still appears when the engine is super hot.

I use the M1 15W50 in my S50 at the track because it would tick like crazy running 5w40. It works great at the track and is a great deal since it is available in 5 quart jugs for about $30.

Switched to Motul X-cess 5w-40 last year. Lifter tick is gone, and hasn't come back.

Mobil 1 is cheap and available, but not great oil, IMO.
