Whats the difference between Leather and Leatherette

June 25 I will get me a BMW but I am not sure what kind of seating I should get.
Leather is $1000 more than Leatherette.
Could you tell me what you think is better?
Thank you

You should see for yourself

I like my leather but it's nothing great. I think Montana leather that comes in 3 series BMWs sucks so bad. It's stiff and wears out fast. It just smells nice. I LOVE the Nappa leather in the M cars though. Basically, Leatherette is just as nice as leather probably and will most likely last a lot longer. It just won't smell like real leather. I think leather is not worth the extra money as much as xenons and the sport package are worth it.

agreed.. my side bolsters started wearing after a month of ownership. it's getting worse and worse. other than that, it's .. uh.. ok... but since leatherette looks so darn good, leather isn't worth the money.

Only difference...$1200.

I have leatherette. Everyone that sit in my car thinks I have leather. It feels the same, lasts maybe even longer. But I also have that wear problem in the side seat bolster. When I ordered my car originally, even my saleslady told me there ws no difference.

IMHO, you cant tell the difference.

Try it out for yourself, its one of those personal and real subjective ones.

The BMW leather in our cars is not the ultimate by any means, but personally I prefer it over the feel of the 'ette quite a bit

Me too. I had a 99 328i and the leather never faded or was worn. And I drove the car to work 60 miles a day. A little maintenance, and the leather looked just as good when I traded the car in as it did when I got it.

I can't remember...did leather come with the premium pack or not? Hehe see this is what happens when you're not the one paying for the car!

Leather is, well, leather, ie cow hide. Leathette is plastic, but looks and feels A LOT like leather. I would go with leathette next time. Looks and feels almost like the real thing, and lasts MUCH better.

if black, then leatherette is close enough to leather that its longer lasting properties override it slightly tighter, less supple traits.

leatherette looks more real in dark colors.
