E46 M3 - Heater Core delete /hose rerouting
I'm building an E46/M3 GTS 3/4 race car. Heater core and supporting h/w have all been removed. Does anyone have experience rerouting the heater hose that runs from near the #3 cylinder to the heater core, back to the water/valve pump assembly and back to the radiator? I want to remove this entirely and simply route that hose back to the radiator. Removing the heater core, HVAC ducting etc was easy. I’m having difficulty determining how to get to the fitting where the supply for the heater core comes off the head. Diagrams from Realoem.com and even the factory manuals are vague in this regard. It looks as if the intake manifold needs to be removed. I find that hard to believe. There has to be an easier way.
Also, I was thinking of using AN fittings with SS braided hose then form a coil to allow some latent heat transfer. That said, the heat would be given up in the left side of the engine bay near the intake plenum. Not the best please to release heat. |

Hi,
You have the Heater feed outlet and then you have the Heater return which is a Black metal pipe which feeds underneath the TB's back into the water pump. Using the the ''Kwik'' fit ends, off the original heater hose, cut the metal bands and remove the hose. Now you have 2 ''kwik'' fittings in black plastic which have 'spigots' Purchase a Samco or similar 180 deg silicon bend with long tails, if I remember correctly at 25mm [1''] ID. Cut tails to correct length, fit hose to kiwk fits with stainless steel jubilee band clips. Job done. This is how I have run it in my E30 M3 /S54 CSL engine for 4 years now. Regards, The Gorilla. |
