I want to turbo 2002 325i

I need a process of how to do it. I have to put in a new engine because of a blown head so I'm going to turbo.

what engine did you put in? the m52b25 engines are not good for boost. the b28/b30 engines are much stronger.

You are going to get some grief...my understanding just from reading. Yes you could go FI with your car. I would expect to spend 5-7k. Also most of the people wanting to go FI post about it and then realize the cost and how much of a pain it would be. Also 5-7k is a low number...these project can balloon.

Agreed. Need money and anyone with that kind of dough will be smart enough and have the proper judgement to not sink it into a 14 year old car. It's a common thing for young paupers to aspire to. Alas, it shall never come to fruition. But, hows about them cold air intakes! That & a fart can should satisfy the young lad's taste for monster horsepowers.

google e46 turbo. You'll find people who have done it. New engine, and turbo, will not be cheap. But might be cheaper than getting something else you like as much.

Try doing a nights worth of reading in the F/I sub forum, then you'll have a better understanding one way or another.

What trans do you have ?

Sorry if I sound like a ****in noob guys I had my radiator blow I didn't bleed the system right after I replaced it so it overheated. I had to replace the thermostat then after testing it I found out the head was warped when it overheated. It's a 2002 325i e46 automatic trans with triptronic. So now I need a new engine, and I'd like to just go ahead and do the build I'm not worried about the cash I have a good job it's kind of just more of a vendetta I have with this car. Other than the cooling system I've put more work into it. I've looked at the people who have done a turbo on this model and it looks awesome.

Your auto trans is unfortunately another Nail in the coffin.....

Installing a turbo is vastly more complicated than simply bolting on a cone filter or the like. You're going to have to completely redo your exhaust, intake and fuel systems. It's a complete transformation of the engine bay.

It's sort of like getting into stock investing. Those who do it successfully do a ton of research before ever investing their money. You're going to have to learn to read compressor maps, interpret EGTs and A/F ratio data logged using a wideband, explain the pros and cons of clipping turbine wheels, and so on.

Here's a good place to start learning:

agreed. you need to visit the FI forum here on the site. it will give you an idea what you're up against.
http://forum.E46Fanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=41

I guess we can go another step before even that by asking what is your budget and who you expect to do the work? if its you, how mechanical are you and understanding of the E46s?

Swap in a b30 and call it a day.

One of these days maybe I'll find it in me to try and turbo this thing but with the challenges in the exhaust plumbing, oil plumbing, and tuning(Although lots of progress has been made here recently) this will be a long and expensive project. Not for the faint of heart.

Focus on getting a car that works reliably, catching up on all the maintenance you can (Cooling, suspension, drive-line, ect), get a good set of light weight wheels + sticky tires, and have fun with the bump in power from the b30. Nitrous is always an option for cheap power.

Nitrous Thread: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1067165

Good luck.

Yeah I know it's a big job I'll be doing a lot of the work at a friends tuning shop. It'll be a big project I'd say I have near 10k to drop on it. Rob - why is my tranny a nail in the coffin?

...you're going to drop $10k into boosting a 14-year-old 325 automatic.

you probably won't get much support or encouragement on boosting. it's a huge job, very expensive.
it's all the more difficult because the e46 is already a high maintenance car.

and frankly, if you need to ask how to do it, you really can't. this is not an insult, this is just me trying to protect you from wasting your money.

it would be better to cut your losses with this car, and take your $10K to buy something better.

How many E46´s did you convert to turbo already? From what we can read from you, it must be many

How´s that 10k coming together?
