I send you a PM. Please hook up your knock siren. That will let you know about pre-ignition long before you can actually here it. You won't have to check firing angles. There is something not installed correctly. Please follow the steps in our troubleshooting manual to diagnose it.

Good find, I remember that thread now. I wonder what the fix was since there was no update on the fix.

Thanks for the research. I understand that this issue ended up being a vacuum line that blew off the fuel regulator. Robbie actually sent the car to Hpf to get that figured out as that line was buried under the plate under the car and he didn't see it and the problem was resolved. He disclose that to me prior to the sale.

Cool, I was looking at stuff last night in regards to idle as I'm going to clean my ICV as preventative maintenance next week.

Take some pics of the install of the valve body and sensor...my stuff should be shipping out next week sometime and will most likely install the week after when I get back from work.

That's a great preventative maintenance plan. This gets gummed up on so many M3s.

Chris.

New / used vanos value body arrived and all cleaned up inside and out with break cleaner. Really
Appreciative for the man who have this to me to help out. It saved about 800 bucks. Hopefully this wil work but if not it will have eliminated one more suspect.

Removed passenger side fan shroud. Put red cloths underneath vanos unit to catch oil dripping while removing. No need to remove clutch fan. It's tight but can be removed and installed with it on.

Lossen all five 5mm bolts as well as 12mm vanos oil valve and unplug connector on passenger side bottom.

No need to touch rest of vanos unit

Lift vanos selinoid and value body out from passenger side of engine. Comes right out. U might have to turn the fan blades a bit to coach it out.

Now remove vanos selinoid (black box) and install on new valve body. Also clean underside of vanos head unit before mounting.
