MAF 0 928 400 504 changed with 0 928 400 529

Hi,
I changed my MAF recently, and I want to know how the car must be coded.
I'm with a 2004 Sport edition with Euro 4 emissions standart.
My old MAF was by bosch and with a 0 928 400 504 part number.
In the Bosch site it said that 504 was phased out and I should replace it with a 0 928 400 529 and so I did. In the bottom of the box it said to take the vehicle to a BMW shop to be recoded.
What has to be recoded and how?
Sone guys here are doing something called Adaptation, which is resetting some settings. Is it the same thing or something else has to be done?
I'd really appreciate a step by step guide how to do the reprogramming or something like that, because my local Bosch service couldn't do it properly.
Anyone with any experience or idea?

Yeah,
The car's MPG is still poor and lots of black smoke (these are the original symptoms, which the MAF should have cured). The MPG is around 30 highway (by pump), but the OBC shows 48 MPG average consumption.
The MAF was changed due to a diagnostics with DIS, which showed around 40% discrepancy in the values at certain RPMs.

The car is with the 110 kW M47N diesel engine

Maybe your ecu has to be updated. They don't sell your old maf part number anymore?

No. In the product description from Bosch, they say that the 504 is phased out and replaced with the 529.

Actually, the fault was in the turbocharger, but the DDE has to be updated.
