Engine dying?

My 02 330ci with 215,000 miles that has always consumed 1 qt/700 miles makes a knocking sound upon cold starting. Lifters? I am contemplating trading it before it dies altogether. It has been my fav but I think it's time to let her go.

Knocking and ticking are different sounds to me.

I would suggest you get someone knowledgeable to listen the noise before you get rid of the car.

Could even be VANOS knocking.

At this point your car is still running. Even if you added oil every two weeks, it's still cheaper than a new car. Get a new car only if you want one. Cause you certainly don't need one.

Thanks for the replys guys. I am thinking it would be easier to sell it if it is still running, so that's what I am going to do. I got good use out of it for 3.5 years.

Has your oil separator ever been replaced? A failed one is known to cause high oil consumption such as 1qt/500miles. I replaced one for a forum member and that fixed the consumption issue. Does your coolant show any signs of oil and vice versa?
