put in the yogurt and chickpeas

mix it in, bring to a simmer, turn heat to low and simmer covered for 30 min

this might also be a good time to boil your rice.
fill up a medium sized pot almost to top with warm water and a dash of salt, bring to a boil and pour in the rice. basmati rice is basically cooked like pasta is, as you use more water than the grain is going to soak up. turn heat to medium and simmer uncovered for 12 minutes. once rice is done, pour into a strainer and shake off the excess water.

1 cup dry yellow lentils
1/2 can red kidney beans

1 onion sliced thin
1 can chopped tomatoes

1 inch ginger
4 dried chilis
4 cloves of garlic crushed

1/2 cup of heavy cream
1/2 stick butter

1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2tsp turmeric
1 tbsp garam masala
1/2 tsp ground coriander seed

Salt
Oil

boil lentils until soft in water and a little bit of salt, when soft mash up kidney beans and mix in, add cream

in different pot, fry cumin seeds until they splutter
add in onion and fry till golden brown
fry garlic, ginger and dried chilis until fragrant
add in tomato and stir for a few minutes till it softens
add in spices and stir for a minute or so to blend it in
add in lentil/kidney bean/cream mixture and mix
bring to a simmer, and add in butter. it melts faster if u cut it up into chunks first
when butter is melted and mixed in, youre done

youre actually better off just using canned lentils because boiling lentils taking fvcking forever, unless you have pressure cooker in which case its like 20-30 min
