The battery is working way better than usual today. No more android system drain. Weird!

My Ride: is totaled
Today I dropped my gs3 in the apartment lobby
Was trying to pull out phone from pants pocket to answer a call while holding a dog leash and other stuff
Phone dropped from about 3 feet high ... phone kept ringing after hitting the floor and nothing broke
I keep my phone naked, no screen protector or case

Cool story, I know

This is the third significant drop and my phone is fine except for a few scuffs on the plastic body on the side

I was on the same boat as you, naked phone... I didn't dropped it or anything but after a few days with the phone I noticed it was very fragile and needed some added protection so I went case hunting and settled for the UAG case. The thing exceeded my expectations, superb build quality and didn't added any significant bulk. www.urbanarmorgear.com

I'm just now joining this thread, although I've had the SGS3 since August.

I had to use an extended battery until I went with CyanogenMod and did some tweaking - automatic screen levels, processor speed, etc.

It's now faster than ever, and with moderate use I get at least 24 hrs out of the stock battery, over 2 days on the extended battery.

Would highly recommend going with CM10 or AOKP, both have similar reports regarding battery life. Other tweaks and features in CM10 are quite useful as well.

I love my phone. It was getting a little slow, so I just reformatted it few minutes ago. Lets hope it works!

the only new thing I notice in Jelly bean are...

you can pinch and expand the notification messages in the drop down.

the drop down has the brightness bar built in.

holding the power button give you more choices like mute

hmm google now is pretty neat(blue google search icon)

everything seems like the same.

Same here, I just switched over from the Galaxy Nexus(Rooted running CM or JB Vicious) 3 days ago, and I did the update a few minutes ago, and I don't notice much difference. I'm definitely going to have to root this so I don't have all of Verizon's apps on it.

A few things i've noticed different so far on the JB verizon setup other than that what Machrc said...

the phone is now global. i went into settings and just kept CMDA on, so the other radios don't waste battery.
there are a few new stock widgets (they come in handy)
there is a new setting for turning the phone to landscape, it's "smart" or something like that. option is in display (i think)
swype is A LOT better.

I'm waiting on 4.2 as i heard the stock messaging app can handle group messages. I hate using 3rd party apps. I heard there is an apk you can install, but i haven't figured out how to do it yet. (i don't even know root my phone yet)

Check your security menu within settings...you're looking for an option called unknown sources, which allows you to install non market .apk files.

^thanks

here is the link if anybody is looking...

http://forums.androidcentral.com/ver...-achieved.html

*edit*

reading more into it, it changes some other stuff, so you can't just download the apk.

eitherway, it's coming out on 4.2 so i guess i'll just find a stock root of 4.2 until the real 4.2 comes out!

Mmm ****ing around more with the phone I found more new things. In messaging settings you can have a reminder every two or ten minutes if you missed a text message

Jelly bean is awesome. It really does a good job in saving battery. This is my moderate use. Watched some videos, used the navigation 3 times, took some pictures at a wedding, uploaded pix on drop box, maps, some pandora, emails, calls, etc. I'm on the stock Verizon rom. Pretty amazed it lasted as long as it did.
