BMW switched to Wahler later on for reasons that I don't know, but I would imagine Behr fixed whatever that issue was by now that caused them to switch over.

I went with Behr, simply because I have mostly Behr parts in my cooling system (expansion tank, cap, radiator). I try to keep manufacturers as close as I can to each other for compatibility's sake. Is that a little paranoid? I dunno, but I just find things tend to work better when they're made by the same manufacturer

Either way, you'll have solid performance from both.

For you US guys, I am starting to get with Stant stats when available. For example for my M5 the OEM thermstat from the dealer with the stupid inner seal is around $110. I found a Stant direct fit with the inner seal for under $20 on my doorstep.

Check Rock Auto and Amazon.com for pricing and application.

I figure all the stats will fail at some point, but Stant has been making them for years and by the millions so they should be able to get them right by now.

Not sure I have been excited about Behr, but this is what was used in my M5 before.

I have a Wahler on my car and I know it's failing/failed. 77C and the needle is in the middle? I think not.

Huh? Are you talking about replacing the thermostat inside the housing? Like individually? What do you mean by using a stant on the E46? Confused.

As for brand... you guys guesses are as good as mine. I have a Wahler. 30,000 miles and all is perfect. I think either would be fine. Wahler is OEM though.

Any difference in color is likely due to the AWB setting of the camera or the particular way the image was processed. Don't think too far into the color.
