No. Don't do it.
I spoke to ESS about tranny flashing. Apparently most of the trannies end up dying verrryyy quickly. |

Just saw this as I was looking for the same information, as this is the only STEP s/w I've seen online (besides Dinan). Not doubting the answer, just looking for more info.
So they don't recommend their own s/w, or is that perspective from the street? Any other thoughts/comments from anyone? Would changing shift points via s/w really kill a transmission?

Does anyone have more info on the Dinan software?
My transmission felt like it was going out. I guess the common consensus is that the seal in the torque converter blows out over time and lets the dirty fluid all though out the transmission thus causing the common failure on the early e46's. I got a "performance" torque converter for $400 and my transmission feels new and the car shits and gets. It basically has a stall somewhat and it kicks up the RPM's an extra 100 (which doesn't seem like much but it makes a big difference actually). Not a bad idea for some of you guys with autos like me that want to make them more fun to drive. I only use step anymore

Honestly im not sure, but that's the main reason why I got it. I thought if it was slipping before it might be cause the torque converter barely handled what power it had, let alone my mods. So I asked how it would be with daily driving and he said it only kicks in if you are at a certain point in the throttle so its perfect for my application. Kicks in only when I really want or need it too. I can give it some throttle in fifth and it will kick in and I pass people easily with barely working the motor. Its sick lol I raced a 98 Mustang gt with intake and exhaust I got him from a dig and from a 60 roll.
And I had my cousin install it he has a shop and works on my Mustang also. Has a 6 second 65 nova.

I put the Dinan software in a few years back and didn't see much of a difference. I eventually got the transmission valve body redone by http://www.importperformancetrans.co...-kit-89-1.html and love it.

A transmission shop removes the valve body from the transmission, and send it to IPT. This is a good time to change the oil and filter. IPT then does some mechanical magic to the assembly, and send it back within 48-72 of receiving. Your shop then reinstalls the assembly. With this you get better and quicker shift points. Way better than I got out of the Dinan software, which was $350 when I got it, plus the price to install.
I can't remember exactly what the install price, IPT service, shipping, new oil and filter ran. Some reason $850 sticks inside my head. Last edited by Jackcat559; 11-04-2011 at 02:32 PM. |

For all 5HP19 drivers out there: try using the Z4 egs software
![]() fully closed converter clutch in third gear at 30km/h und in fourth at 40km/h. shifting is much faster then with 330iA software |
