You will inevitably go to some events where jeans are appropriate. A slim cut pair of dark jeans is as valuable as a pair of slacks.

Btw you seem miserable about having to dress professional. Cheer up and embrace it.

i need help from all of you to make a purchase decision. it is my biggest closet shame that i don't own a classic plain black balmoral. i probably haven't owned one since i was 13 for my bar mitzvah. now being sort of an adult man by some standards, i think it's about time to sack up and purchase. i hesitated for so long because i will maybe wear it twice a year.

i am thinking the following:

EG "Chelsea"

Alfred Sargent "Armfield"

Gaziano and Girling "Oxford"

I think the G&G are the best looking... next is, which I think I am leaning toward, the Alfred Sargent's because I think they represent the best value overall... which can be had for around $650. being that these may be the last black balmorals I buy in my life, I am happy to spend the money to get something nice. the other two here are north of $1,000 but can be had less if ordered internationally. the other half of that same coin is, i don't know if i can justify a ridiculous price since i'll maybe wear them 50 times for the rest of my life.

some other options are the C&J Hallam and the John Lobb City II.

They are all beautiful and finely crafted shoes
But from these pictures, I can't really tell them apart
If you didn't label them, I don't think anyone else be able to tell them apart
I would just go with whatever fits your feet the best

JL C2 is my preference. It's less dandy and, if you're only going to wear them once a year, I would assume it's to pretty formal occasions where peacocking is not the goal.

If that group is it, G&G is the best.

But really, the differences are marginal, so I think the AS is very acceptable, too.

People aren't good at identifying people from other races. It's a fact.

Evolved doesn't really look like Schaub. Schaub is dopey looking.

The wife and I are attending a charity event tonight. It's being held at Ruth's Chris steak house and the St. Louis Rams are our waiters....silent auction and cocktail hour followed by 4 course dinner and a live auction. The dress code says business casual, but some of my co-workers are wearing something to the tune of dark jeans, nice shoes, OCBD and a sport coat. Is this appropriate for business casual?

That sounds okay to me.

I don't have any client appointments today, so I'm just wearing a pink OCBD, khaki chinos, a blue surcingle belt, and my penny loafers.
