ight just got back from BB; just wanted to hear opinions because i've never paid remotely this much for a suit, so i wanna get this right. i went with a madison 1818, size 43. i know several people recommended the fitz here, and that's what my salesmen went with first. however, my arms and chest were too big and it just felt cramped and didnt look good. he recommended i either do MTM or try the madison.

ended up paying 30% off the $1000 retail, so $700 total. however, i also had to pay for $100 for tailoring (jacket getting taken in, pleats on the pants being removed) so it brought it up to $800. thoughts?

you can sometimes get them to cover the tailoring... but other than that, seems about right for the most part. i'm surprised you didn't go for the regent though. the madison is huge.

honestly, i didnt know anything about the different cuts and pretty much let the salesman handle everything. i'm concerned that the madison might be a little too roomy (i like my clothes to look pretty fitted), but the fitzgerald definitely didnt fit. if the fitz didnt fit, would the regent probably not fit anyways?

the regent is a less extreme version of the fitzgerald... also, it's double vented, vs. center vent on the fitzgerald.

i prefer double vented, but i care much more about a proper, modern fit that will age well so that i wont have to replace this suit anytime in the near future. this is basically gonna be my one, go-to suit for all situations where i need one. i'm probably gonna keep an eye out for a good deal for a second suit within the next year and that's pretty much all i plan to keep in my closet. i'm starting to think that i should maybe stop by a store this weekend to try on the regent just in case.

are they usually quick about tailoring (salesman told me it'd be ready 11/2)? i'm assuming i wouldnt be able to go back on my purchase once they start

the tailor won't even start it for a week. if you call, you maybe can... i did the same thing once, went in for a regent blazer, salesman sold me on a madison because they were sold out of regent in my size. alterations and fit were so off i went back a year later after not wearing it once and explained the situation. they switched it for a fitzgerald blazer, a year later, with no receipt, and gave me all alterations for free.

I like the socks. That's usually where I wear something goofy or at least less conservative than the rest.

They're a very popular style, but I don't care for bicycle toes (the seams running along the sides) and elongated toes.

I prefer more traditional penny loafers. Then again, I'm 26 and dress like I'm 62.

Are you that buff or fat? ... go cancel the madison and go back with someone who can give you an objective opinion about how the suit fits
At least until you develop a better eye for your own suit fit
Do not take the salesman's word for it (unless if you have developed a relationship and trust the person)
His job is to sell sell sell
