yeah but I kind of feel like you're pretty particular about how your shoes fit. I'm totally not. I'm of the mindset that as long as they aren't crushing my toes, they'll eventually mold to my feet.

I was hoping the AE strand would mold to my feet just like that
But my peal&co shoes made by AS and C&J fit so much better from the beginning and after many months of wear
So I am less willing to just order random shoes I have no experience with

word. but AE uses basically the shittiest leather possible. their inherent value is that they can be remanufactured by the factory. therefore, there value is entirely time dependent. there is no initial value in the quality. I've said it many times, but I would never buy an American made calf shoe. not AE, not Alden. all my calf shoes are English, every one of my Alden's is cordovan or cxl.

I think your definition of shitty is far different than most, lol.

I couldn't be happier with all of my AE's.

but you also buy yours at a discount because of your wife. at $200, it's a perfectly fine shoe. at $325. hell no. you know how people always ask "is x worth ($) than y?" and the answer is always "it depends on your needs." or some variant of that response? you can get a C&J Connaught for $550 from Sky Valet in DC. a AE Park Ave is $325. The C&J is 100% unarguably worth $225 more. It simply is. And yes you can get AE's on sale, but you can also order C&J from England and the differential remains exactly the same.

Once you look at shoes, for example, at various price points, you can start to see the difference in quality and construction. Then you can decide what your comfort level is, money-wise.

On the style blogs you see lots of people wearing longwing brogues with everything from suits to denim. Take a look and see which ones you might like. As for suits, navy blue is a staple, and is really versatile.

As long as we're not talking about considerably formal settings, a classic loafer with a suit is perfectly acceptable.

The LHS has quickly become my favorite shoe, both because they are super comfortable and because slip ons are essential for mental health while at the airport.

Allen Edmonds makes a model called the Kenwood which is another viable option, but I'd only buy them on deep discount as the leather is not very high quality.
Thanks guys. Those loafers do look nice. How formal/non-formal would a plain-toe, blucher style shoe be? Im not sure how I feel about lots of broguing (sp?).

Edit: My last question is independent of your loafer recommendation Dwass.

blucher's are a pretty casual shoe.

you most likely want an balmoral or oxford (same thing, different name). i would start with a black calf captoe oxford. no brogueing, nothing. just a tradional black captoe oxford.

in other news, i just purchased a pair of Ravello Alden LWB.... kill me. but .

Some brands do them well (AE Kenilworth) and some brands, in my opinion, offer dopey looking models (Alden 990).

I usually consider them strictly casual. Of course the shape will impact how casual it is, but there are always better formal options (all balmorals).

Anyone know where I can find a quality knit tie online? I'm tempted to buy one off ebay for dirt cheap just to see what the quality is like.

Get one from chipp2. You won't see the plain ties on their website (all they show is their dog ties, lol) but if you call him he'll get you taken care of. He sent me 14 color swatches too when I bought from him in case I ever wanted to order anything else.

Price was right too. $50 shipped if memory serves me. It's My favorite tie already

Sent from my SCH-I535 using Bimmer App
