Crepe soles are great in the rain (not ice though).

Best option within price is the AE Bayfield.

Best option just above is AE Dalton with lug sole (AE can do this for you).

There are good options from Alden but would start around $500.

There are other great brands that wouldn't meet the dinner requirement.

If I found an exceptional pair of Alden's I would jump at them for that price. Any recommendations?

The Bayfields in brown chromexcel are pretty nice looking...

As are the dark chocolate calf Dalton's.....

Good thing I have a while to think about it, lol

Are you looking for plain toe, cap toe, split toe, etc? How rugged? Are Indy boots too rugged?

Also, a good cobbler can add a leather sole cover (topy) for less than $35.

But keep in mind, this will only go so far. Boots with truly durable soles will never meet the dinner requirements.

I've never been a fan of split toe. Plain and cap are on the table. Indy boots aren't too rugged.....I'm a big fan of the plain toe Alden Indy. Do those come in more water resistant soles?

I don't need them to be rugged like a pair of Danner boots, or something that I would go hiking/hunting/etc. in. I just need them to be water resistant, to not fall apart in inclement weather and look good in a city/urban setting whether it be walking around the city or going to dinner. The typical outfit that would be going with these boots would be jeans or khakis with a sweater or button down (or both) and possibly a SC.

Edit: AE Bayfields look to be discontinued.....however, allaboutshoes on SF says that he can get them for me in my size and brown chromexcel for $295. Hmm.....

Maybe some heavy oxfords? I dunno that boots will provide that much more protection.

The Indy sole is neoprene. It is completely water resistant (it's a work boot, after all).

I'm sort of digging the Tricker's heavy derby oxfords. I may have to buy some if I ever have the opportunity.

I thought about that, but I like the look of a lace up boot for the colder months. We'll see, though....

Hmm, i didn't know that. I like the plain toe Indy over the regular Indy, and it doesn't look like the plain toe has that same sole.

When I was the tender age of nine, I got mono. Unfortunately, I got it at the exact same time as Stephanie Barledge, a girl my same age who I knew at church. I received much ribbing over that. I think it scarred me for life.

I bet every BB retail store had some kind of competition going on with that. I would imagine that would get you a gold star.
