i'm kind of at this point where i have around $5,000 to spend that i've designated from a bonus. i'm leaning towards watch or revamping my home stereo. if i don't decide on a watch, i already new stereo components picked out.
yea, i hear you, and when the time comes to literally shop for a watch, i know i'll do it the right way, like i do with my clothes/shoes now. so.. if you had to suggest, what are some decent watch makers in the, lets say, $400 to $700 range. I won't appreciate anything more than that, and please no Movado lol.

I like simple, and eventually, i would like 3 watches to coordinate.

1 - Brown leather strap, classy, timeless.
1 - Black leather strap, same thing
1 - Metal band, something more for casual, but at the same time can be pulled off for dress. I wouldn't mind if this one is a bit more unique and "loud" than the other two.

Go lol

TIA

Thanks! I'm actually a horrible person: I'm such a cheapskate that when an actual family member has a medical need I still have to unclench my teeth. We just got both of our kids out of braces last year--I'm still reeling from that one a bit. "Couldn't we let it go? Ugly, crooked teeth add character, right?"

i am not an expert. but i'd get a used hamilton khaki field or jazzmaster. around $700. then you can get any strap you want.

We were in London, Brussels (briefly), Amsterdam and Paris.

The only thing I purchased was a Belstaff 561 Travel Bag from Harrod's in London.....it was originally 350 GBP but it was marked down to 150 GBP, so I couldn't resist.

Edit: We purchased other things, obviously, but most were in the form of something we could eat or drink.

Also, on a separate note.....my wife and I are seriously discussing the idea of moving to London/UK. It would depend on me getting a job in my field (banking, finance, etc.) since I've been in my career longer. Anyone have any insight, contacts or advice?

If you really want to pursue the idea, a friend of mine ('08 SLU grad as well) moved to UK immediately after undergrad for school and had been working there since. I can put you in touch.

robbing with a sword is a good thing

it's very difficult unless you already have a right to work there. it's very hard to get a company to sponsor you also, unless you're very high up and qualified in your field. lastly, you need to consider that in London, finance jobs are about one pay tier lower than they are here. associates make analyst salary. vp make associates salary, etc. also, they have very strict bonus caps now. so the main point, for finance, is lower pay, high cost of living. something to think about it.
