Coming from you??

Its funny what the right socks/laces can do to an outfit. I am becoming a sock wh()re now lol. Nordstroms Rack has some really good selections for cheap, surprisingly English Laundry has some pretty awesome socks, and for $6-$9, you can't beat them. There was another brand too I forgot. Banana socks today however, everything else is Hugo.

This is how I started a year ago. Hmm, let me see what I purchased since then rofl... this is in chronological order, lets see how well I can remember

walnut strands, merlot mcallisters, BB miniplaid gray suit, shell cordovan strands, navy Neumoks, Hugo Boss charcoal suit, 2 pairs clark's chuckas, 1 pair cole haan chucka's, black magnanni cap toe lace ups, burnished brown neumoras, bourbon strands. In the midst of all that, 3 pairs of hugo dress pants (love the fit,) 6 or so Hugo dress shirts, about another half dozen or so ties, 20 pairs of funky socks, 10 pocket squares, and a few cuff links.

I don't regret one dime that I spent lol... my wardrobe is almost where I want it, so my future purchases will luckily be few and far in between. All of the hugo I got was on sale, both suits were 50% off as well.

I'm a big fan of Cole Haan's. I don't like the dated AE's this thread seems to have a boner for as a whole. Stacy Adams made a few pairs I liked as well.

As a whole, I like the buckle style when its done correctly.

Something like this, sans the giant gold G on 'em

Yall might claim amenable, but there is def. a overbearing "old man shoe" style this thread loves.

Pics were posted in I think the "recent pics of yourself" thread.

My cole haan chukkas are my most used boot. Love them. I have a pair of low boots with a red bottom, rough tan/grayish leather as well, awesome casual boot, and i have a pair of wingtips. All of them are very comfy, the leather is nice, but defintiely not as nice/durable as AE's leather. I almost bought a pair a few weeks ago too of Cole Haan... dark violet suede loafers, the stitching was pink Sick evening shoe, but I wouldn't get my money's worth, even at the $120 sale price.

As for AE, with the right outfit and the right shoe (and laces)... a lot of their shoes can look pretty modern and not so "old fashioned." The strand in walnut/bourbon look great with slimmer pants and some funky laces, and the neumora I think is their sleekest shoe. They have some pretty nice looking balmorals, thats for certain.

Just so we are clear, you are looking for some teenage-girl-self-pic-in-the-mirror style that is popular in this thread, right?

Yeah, I don't have one of those.

It's not the overall design of the shoe I don't like, its the retarded swirly patterns that are all over them - that's what ages them to me.

No mirrors involved (other than camera lens).

Broguing? sure, but even your GQ supports them

Meh... i partially agree, especially with darker colored shoes. Dark brown and black brogueing does make it look like an old old man shoe, but I look at the entire outfit. There is no way in hell this pic looks "aged" in the least bit.

GQ tends to be pretty hit-or-miss.

You are overly critical for a guy without corresponding cred.

I agree with that, the color and non-overdone pattern is what saves the shoe, and the look here.
