Discount at Leather Soul? Probably have better luck trying to get your congressman to add a clause in a bill that Ed gets a free pair of boots.

i dunno
i took a friend there about 1.5 years ago and convinced him to try on some aldens because he was looking to upgrade his dress shoes
he has since bought 4 pairs of shoes at leather soul (3 aldens and 1 cleverly) and said he got his indy boots for 30% off paying cash
sounds ridiculous since alden sells itself... but then again it could just be that his size is not the first to fly out the door so bryan would rather sell it to him at a discount to move it? ...
dunno

i think your friend is lying to you or GROSSLY exaggerating the situation. even when they do their giant sale each year, alden's are never on them. only the english offerings. i'd bet they were a return they got, so instead of sending them back to alden they sold them to your friend at cost. bryan gave me 25% off a pair once but it was because a pair they sent me was damaged and i kept it.

i know... i asked him several times because it seems ridiculous to get such a discount on such popular shoes
but then again, i think he wear 10.5E on the barrie last ... and bryan was telling me yesterday how alden won't take a one-off reorder .. must order in bulk
so i think his shoe size has a lot to do with the discount

I didn't realize the code expired today until I went back and read the fine print.

I think it's a sign for me to not get the indy boots

And get some cordovan shell boots instead

Actually, I really want to see the BB red wing boots in person
I posted the link to one earlier, with the white vibram soles
I had seen at least one of the red wing boots I was interested in at bb before I went to korea
I stopped by bb on friday but they had shipped back most of the red wing boots to make room for the spring stuff
Only have like the chukka boots and I'm not into those

I'm always dismayed to see people remember that I wrote that. That's going to be my shallow, sad legacy in this thread.

Just had a very frustrating experience at BB. They have one group of suits that are available as mix/match (jacket/pant.) I asked if the line was part if the current sale.

It is. Perfect.

I get measured, try some things on, pick out a fabric, an am ready to buy. Then he remembers that only four fabrics are part of the sale. The blue I picked isn't. Ok. Whatever. I'm cool with the standard blue and that's in the sale. Let's do this.

He walks away to put in the order. Comes back a minute later. I asked for a double vent but the standard blue Regent, which is fair game under the sale, is only available in single vent. I can get a double vent, but then it's a custom order again, like the original fabric I picked, and won't work under the sale.

I ask politely if he's sure, because every Regent I've seen (including the one I own) is double. Yep. These are only single. They're the only single vent Regents. Apparently single vent is more modern in their eyes and it's what everyone wants (which doesn't explain why the rest or the line is double.)

I tell him I prefer single vents and I'm going to think about it, which causes him to start pushing me to get a BB credit card to get 15% off.

BB is a great company, but the way they work this one line is frustrating and unnecessarily complicated.

I get annoyed by most sales associates at BB
Most of them don't know jack and the few that do ... are jackasses
The only one I liked, she got married and left for denmark or switzerland or one of those countries in the nordic region

Everyone wants that commission but not enough put in the work to be knowledgeable and earn it by actually helping customers
And I'd rather give the sale to a person who is at least trying

Also really bothers me with know it all's like dwass's guy. This part:

"I ask politely if he's sure, because every Regent I've seen (including the one I own) is double. Yep. These are only single. They're the only single vent Regents. Apparently single vent is more modern in their eyes and it's what everyone wants (which doesn't explain why the rest or the line is double.)"

All the needed to happen there was a let me double check but I am pretty sure. would've made a big difference in the level of service to me.

all that dudes stuff fits way too loose. the cut is fine but his jacket is too long, too loose, and so are his trousers. it's like the suit would fit him perfectly if he dropped one size. i'm not a fan of putthison. other than their ebay finds, the site is pretty much worthless.

i have a dumb question:
if you buy a blazer that doesnt have the traditional metal gold/brass buttons or something like a crest, aren't you essentially buying a suit jacket that just doesn't have matching pants?

sometimes i check out styleforum out of curiosity and they have a whole thread where everyone pretty much agrees that a suit jacket recycled as a blazer is a faux pas. i'm wondering how they can even tell

Most blazers have contrasting color buttons of some kind, whether they're metal or horn or some other material. Suit buttons usually are the same or almost the same color as the jacket fabric.
