I broke down and bought another pair of penny loafers today at BB. I will keep the others to wear without socks, maybe with shorts.

Sorry guys havent been around too much, work has kept me busy! But I'm on vacation in Vegas right now so I have some great time. Stopped at the outlets for a bit, and almost got a pair of cole Haans but didn't like the lip on the shoe, it was too bright compared to the rest.

I noticed Brooks brothers doesn't sell Allen Edmonds in their outlet stores, as I was hoping to try on a pair.

Ended up only getting a pair of shorts and polo at gap, and bathing suit and sandals at nautica. Anything I should have been looking for? Its not far from where I'm staying so I can easily go back.

That's awesome Ed.

I haven't been to Vegas in years, so I can't help you. Hopefully you find some good places to go.

Today at the mall I saw Filson bags at both Brooks Brothers and Nordstrom (!). BB had the original briefcase and Nordstrom had the medium field bag. Now I covet both of them. Seeing them in person was a bad, bad move.

The BB Outlet isn't an outlet in the normal sense. It's actually a lower line of BB and has nothing to do with their regular non-outlet stores. With very few exceptions, everything there is specifically made for the outlet (i.e. made for a lower price point and not on par with the quality of standard BB).

Same goes for BR. Even the tags on their clothes are different... I had a couple shirts from there and the fit... omg absolutely terrible, looked like i was wearing a garbage bag.

Anyone know much about a new online tailor called www.blacklapel.com ? They are direct competition to the likes of Indochino, except they don't use a hybrid fusing/half canvass construction, but rather a true half or full canvas at a fairly good price point. In particular, I'm liking the look of their navy blazer....figured it would be something I could wear with both jeans and on business casual days at work.

One of my STL friends was pushing this on Facebook. They had some graphic about why it makes SO much sense to buy a tuxedo. Their argument was, if you go to five weddings per year for five years, you'll save (roughly) a billion dollars.

I literally laughed out loud. I've been to a good number of weddings and none of them have been black tie. If you show up to a regular wedding wearing a full tux, you will look like a complete idiot. And if you really do attend that many black tie events, you're not looking to Facebook for guidance on whether or not you should buy your own tux (because your manservant is currently picking yours up from the cleaners.)

Cliffs: I wouldn't buy from them because they have stupid advertising.

I have not worn a tuxedo since my own wedding in 1991. I just don't have any reason to go to black tie events.

Completely agree on showing up to a wedding wearing a tux....you would look ridiculous. I bought one because I wear one 2-3x per year for charity/work events.

Fair enough.....I haven't seen their advertising. Their return policy is pretty good if I"m not happy, so I may roll the dice on a blazer. I haven't really found a plain navy blazer with the details that I like for a decent price, so we'll see.

I quickly built a jacket on their website. It appears that they don't charge extra for details like a ticket pocket or working cuffs. That's pretty cool. If you order one let us know how it turns out. The pricing seems pretty reasonable.

I was recently asked to go to a wine tasting event. Had to decline - my white trash roots would be too evident.

I was being a bit sarcastic for effect, but I really do judge a company by its advertising. Only an idiot would believe their farcical math, and I don't like being treated like an idiot when I'm trying to give someone my money.

But hey, if they've got the product you want at a price you like, go for it.

Living less than an hour from Napa and having terrific wineries in the Sierra Foothills, every once in a while I get invited to go on a wine tasting tour. They tend to be casual events, but I go just for the social aspect. It's always kind of funny when we get to the first winery and someone asks me what I want to try. The look on people's faces when I tell them that I'll just take a glass of water is hilarious.

Do you tell them why or just let them speculate that you're a recovering alcoholic?

I am finding that I enjoy wine more the older I get... 26 going on 62

Nah. I tell them. They usually have a nice catered lunch somewhere along the line so it's a good chance to get out and network in a lovely setting.

I still can't really do more than a glass of red wine. I do really enjoy certain whites, though.

Tell them you prefer martinis. On the outside the men will think you're not cultured enough. The women will think, "I could never date this guy." But on the inside the men envy your manliness and the woman want to fuck you.

I'm a martini man myself. And that's how I prefer to think of it
