Hey check these guys out: http://www.houseofbespoke.com/

I bought two suits from them and am having a third made right now. The first one was not the best fit but they covered the alterations which fixed all problems and the subsquent one was a much better fit.

I think they're running a group on deal right now in the NY area right now...

But do I think full canvas is worth $200 over the half canvas for just the jacket?
Nah

Yeah, I didn't think so. Before I knew it was $200 I told myself if it's $100 or less for full canvas I'll go ahead, but at $200 I think I'll pass and just stick with the half canvas.

and since this will be the first time you are working with them, you want to limit your exposure to risk just in case
it could turn out great.. or it could turn out to be a nightmare that requires multiple trips to the tailor... and still fail

let us know how it turns out of course

My new BB penny loafers showed up at the house today. They look good. I haven't tried them on yet (I just swung by the house for lunch before heading off to more appointments) but if they fit like the ones at the store they should be just right.

Other. They're just the basic penny loafer. I dunno who makes them. I think they're just a house brand. They were a little under 200 bucks (before my state bar discount).

EDIT: I couldn't bring myself to pay $500+ for a pair of Peal & Co loafers.

i don't think i could bring myself to pay $500+ for a pair of Peal & Co. anything... maybe I should do a little more research on the construction and quality, but they are super expensive and from a glance, they have never caught my eye like AE or Alden have...

I'm planning to wear these with chinos, so no point in having them be my most expensive shoes ever.

I do the reverse. I dress pretty somber when suited up and that's the minority of the time, so I prefer to spend my money on the more casual footwear.

Most of my shoes hover in the 200-300 dollar range. I have a few that are cheaper (Clark's desert boots, LL Bean camp mocs, Chuck Taylors), but I start getting a little jittery at the thought of going over 350 or so.

Dave, is there any rule of thumb on Alden sizing? For example, if I'm an 11B in the 5 last of AE, does that translate into anything specifically for Aldens? I'm wanting to put a deposit down on a pair of Natural CXL Indy boots from Leffot, and I was leaning towards sizing 0.5 down to account for my narrow foot. Any advice since you've owned both brands?

It will probably depend on the last as well, however Dave did mention that a 5 last to a Barrie last should be a .5 size drop...

And if i remember correctly, the Indy boot is not on the Barrie last, its on the Trubalance last, so I have no idea what that sizing should be

Good point. From reading around it looks as if the Trubalance last runs 1/2 size larger than other Alden lasts, so I wonder if I should go down as far as a 10......I guess it's the widest of the Alden lasts.

I probably shouldn't be buying another casual pair of boots with a lug sole in chromexcel, since I just got a pair a month or so ago, lol.
