Those are breaking in nicely. I like how the creases are adding some character to the leather.

On another note: I just got notice that my $50 worth of buttons has been shipped. I feel like a total dork for being excited about this.

And, as a bonus, they have a very well placed Horween stamp.
Those are legit.

Thank Dave. I've worn them about 4 days/week since I got them and they just keep getting better

I think I'm officially sold on Saphir products. I used the Reno on the whole boot and then AE's chili polish on the cap toe of my Bayfields and they came out almost like a whole new boot.

Here's a dumb question: do wine grapes taste like wine? Or do the more complex flavors in wine only come out in the fermentation process? I don't drink wine but I loves me some grapeage.

They're smaller and not nearly as sweet, but they don't taste like wine. You can usually squeeze them out of the skins, it's pretty cool.

Glad you liked the Saphir - I think they're well worth the extra money for those of us who are willing to spend several hundred dollars or more on a pair of shoes. Post some pics of the boots if you get a moment. Which products did you say you got?

And thanks - the boots are just silly comfortable and these are my favorite jeans... I paid like $13 + tax

Can't blame them
Brand recognition is important for fashion houses

So in my search for a cordovan boot to replace my soon-to-be-departed JCrew/Alden cap toe, I was giving some thought to the Wolverine 744LTD...

Mini-rant: I understand that small shops don't have the same capacity as large shops, but if you are selling shoes that have price tags of $760, which are released in runs of 1,000, which aren't available in stores, which have different sizing guidance from different vendors...and you DON'T offer refunds (even if buyer pays shipping) that makes it incredibly difficulty to feel comfortable purchasing from you. And when these specialty shops don't stock wide widths, it basically means that all I can order from them are Indy boots.

You're right. I get it from a marketing/revenue standpoint. But since I don't like Burberry and don't buy their goods, I'm going to still talk trash about it.

The extra seam on the cap isn't my preference, but you're off to a good start

finally received the Alden Plaza CXL Wingtip boots from Leather Soul. Spent last night treating. The overwhelming consensus seems to be to treat CXL with Mink Oil or some variant and a horsehair brush. Nothing else. Leffot recommends Montana Pitch Blend, which is a combination of pine pitch, beeswax and mink oil. Super water repellent. It darkens the color a bit but I couldn't be happier with the overall result. The picture below was when it was still absorbing last night.

Leffot application video below.

Thanks man. They were pretty much an impulse buy at the mall yesterday and for $80, don't think it was a bad deal.

OK I started a thread but was directed here in order to access all the fashion gurus, I need a new suit for social occasions. I have a closet full of suits for work but they are all classic two button Brooks Brothers "bankers" suits.

I am just looking for a place to look/designer that might make a nice suit that would fit my frame, I am 5'8" and about 200 lbs with a rather solid/broad build, looking to spend about $600 at the most as this suit wont get that much use, any suggestions?

i was offered a chance to try on/buy the 744s a week before they were released. really nice, great color. a bit too rugged for me for the money. not terribly versatile. also, absolutely can't get past the wolverine logo embossed on the ankle. so so annoying. on a pair of regular 1000 miles, fine. i'd probably wear them out enough that the embossing would go away after a while. but on these I honestly think it ruins the shoe.

first off, do you get your suits tailored? waist taken in to give the jacket more shape than just looking like a "sack" suit?
you don't have to be a slim build ... in fact, a less than slim build will benefit more from proper tailoring
i know brooks brothers is very boxy american ... but i have several brooks brothers suits that look very modern and not boxy with just a bit of tailoring to fit my body
