Reverse and 1st blown?

Some backstory first: After awhile of owning the car I noticed that in the cold it would be harder to shift than normal into gear but after a couple minutes running it would be fine. Some more times passes and it's impossible to shift into 1st and reverse without letting the car sit for at least 15 minutes. Today when I was driving there was a loud bang and now when I shift into 1st or reverse and let the clutch out nothing happens but the other gears work. Do I need a new transmission?

Yes. Sounds like fork got worn out and totally failed. You kept driving it knowing there is a problem.
