M52b28 swap to m54b30 my weekend is gone.

Hello all!

Well like the title says my m52tub28 died on me. The ceramic centre of my spark plug fell out and into the valve. ouch!

I have a 2002 bmw 330CI donor car with everything I need for the swap 120k miles on the odometer (the car itself is rusted to hell no point in investing to fix it) the engine itself runs strong.

I'm going to be posting updates to this thread as I go. Everyone feel free to voice your input on what to expect, I've swapped a few engines before but never Bimmer engines so if you have experience please feel free to voice your input. I'm guessing I won't need a tune since I have the m54 harness and both vehicles are 5 speed.

Thanks look forward to hearing from fellow e46fanatics!!

Won't need a tune. But 328i tune won't be optimal. Unless you get into swapping multiple modules, throttle pedals etc there is no easy way to plug everything in and have the stock 330's tune. The way I did mine was retaining m52tub28 computer and harness and using M52tub28 throttle body adapted onto intake manifold (in your case from m54). With a tune and some other stuff it makes just as much or more power as the highest n/a powered m54s on the forum.

Update: so I began removing the engine from the donor car today, geez who ever owned it before me did not take care of it at all. It's soo dirty and dry rotted it's hard to believe it has 120k on it. The CCV is done for as I found a good amount of oil build up in the intake.

So far I have only removed the air box, TB, intake manifold(that was a bear!) and misc panels to get around the engine easier.

Pics shortly....
