Is brake clean safe for idle control valve?

On multiple threads people sau it's fine while some others say you shouldn't use brake clean.

So for those who cleaned it, was using brake clean ok?

Throttle body cleaner is right next to it on the shelf at McParts. When I do stuff I tend to use the appropriate product for the task.

I won't use brake cleaner, I'd be afraid of it being too strong. I would suggest Throttle body first or MAF cleaner.

The right stuff (throttle body cleaner) is cheap, don't use brake parts cleaner.

So far I've only cleaned the ICV once on each of my E46's.

330Ci - Used brake parts cleaner. Cleaned 70K miles ago. No issues with my idle.

325i - Used brake parts cleaner. Followed up with a touch of Seafoam Deep Creep. Cleaned 20K miles ago. No issues either.

I can't remember completely, but I think I used brake parts cleaner when I cleaned it. If not, I used acetone. I followed up with PB Blaster then shook it and let it sit upside down on some paper towels until I was ready to put it back in.

I think throttle body cleaner is best, though. I just ran out.

Some companies make their brake cleaner stronger enough to strip paint, and I always buy the cheap bulk stuff as it gets used a lot. For intake parts, I use TB cleaner.

Ok well to be safe I got some throttle body cleaner and delayed my work to next weekend, also got some MAF cleaner so might as well clean that.

Cleaned the ICV on my e36 at work so I probably used the parts washer and then sprayed the hell out of it with WD-40. 9 years and it idles just fine.
