differential swap

Hey guys,
I just took a new job and had to move so my plans for my car have been a bit delayed. I did want to S/C the car but it wont become my summer toy now for another year. With that said I don't feel good about running a S/C in the winter.

So I have been reading and I am thinking about swapping my differential.
My car currenty have the 2.93. I was thinking about going to a 3.46. it does not seem like too huge of a change that it would make my care useless on the high way. But it does seem like a big enough change to fly through the RPM's a lot faster.

What do you guys think about that? I do a fair bit of HWY driving so do you guys a 3.46 would be good or go down to a 3.15.

My car is a 2004 330ci 6 speed manual.

Next year when I build my garage and get my truck this car will get some serious work going on it. But for now it needs to be reliable but I am happy to get some extra power to the ground.

You should be fine especially with a 6 speed

3.38 is the best of both worlds, especially when you do alot of freeway driving. Even with a 6 speed 3.46 would be a bit much for someone who does alot of freeway driving because we all know noone drives 60mph ....

i have a 3.46 and a 6spd and cruze usually at around 70-80 mph

i also do about 85% highway driving and smash it around everywhere with my headers and cams ... I'm lucky if i really try i can get 300 miles to the tank but let me tell you if i did a whole tank on the highway i bet i could still get 500 miles even at 80mph cruise control is so good at saving gas its crazy

That's good to me considering I have a heavy foot, plus rpms are around 3500 around 85 when I drive 20 min to work...so I think that's pretty good for a 5 speed 3.46

But you have 6 speed? I have 5 speed. If I drive on highway for hours I can get over 400. But I'm mainly in the city if I'm not driving to work
