I'm stumped. EWS is sync'd, no codes are being thrown (except for exhaust gas flap), the CAN bus is functional, and all sensors seem to be getting the right signals. I want to say that at this point the car should be diagnosed as if it's a factory E46 that isn't starting.

Re: MS42 < MS43 Compatibility Thread...

Should note...the car didn't start after changing the plugs. Next step is diagnosing the coil packs. And finally the fuel pump. From there it must be a relay of sorts.

Just realized you have an e39. Different dme box and everything. I will definitely be hacking into the dme box and doing some wiring this afternoon. Because I know the big red and yellow spotted wire isn't connected to the relay.

The issue has to be in the fuel line. The car is getting spark. because there are no wires that differed between the X6002 connection. Which contains the coil pack harness.

So now the issue becomes how does the fuel injectors get power to open and close. There are signals while testing in INPA that are saying they're opening and closing, but are they actually doing that?

My thought now turns to the X6053 connection. The difference between harnesses is a lone pin addition in slot 7. That pin is not connected to anything on the splice harness. What I've discovered is that there are two relays for that slot which occupies number 3 in the third graphic down linked HERE. Notice how it mentions the K6326, Unloader Relay...and the fuel related one is K6327, Fuel Injector Relay.

Not sure what the part number is for the relay...but I think that if I swap the relay and run a splice from pin 2 in X6327 to pin 7 in X6053, we should get the car to fire...finally. There is no way in Hell the Fuel Pump is dead...and definitely not all the coils. So it has to be that the problem lies at the injectors.

This is what the WDS says

MS43

MS42

edit:

Here's the diagram for X6326 (unloader relay) on the MS42:

http://www.bmw-planet.com/diagrams/r...000007114.svgz

Basically it seems like they're the same relay, except it goes to the first ignition coil on the MS42, and injectors on MS43.

And the ignition diagram from the MS43:

But that's the thing...where does that leave the extra plug? If it were to function like an MS43, then I think it would start. So how do I acquire the correct relay and splice the connection properly?

So I have a feeling I am going to have to make a franken-harness...by combining the differences in the MS42 Body splices with the MS43 engine pinouts.

Thoughts?

spray some starter fluid into intake manifold, if the engine fires then you got the fuel issues

What is the best place to try and spray it?

Would fuel that has been sitting in the tank for as long as it has become "bad?" Hasn't started in over four months. No stabilizer had been added before taking it off the road.

Some additives may have degraded, but it should still start with old fuel, maybe just run badly afterwards. I had a tractor with 3 year old gas that started right up.

Well if it starts then we can diagnose the fuel issue...

No need to insult him. You couldn't have simply asked "so what did it end up being" ? Anyone is bound to make mistakes their first few times doing something like this

Re: MS42 < MS43 Compatibility Thread...

I actually took your "moronic" suggestion to use some starter fluid. and guess what...it worked!

Video Proof.
