Best bet is to go with a set of headers, and a Rogue El Diablo. Of course there are other exhausts that sound equally as good, but I feel that this set up is the least "rice burner" as you mention:

Let me know how that sounds, but we can certainly get that set up for you, and for a good price. Here are those two items on our website:

Fabspeed Sport Headers E46 M3

*Rogue Engineering E46 M3 El Diablo Exhaust w/ SS Tips

Don't hesitate to PM/Email or call me direct if you have any questions - 714.582.3330 extension 8002 - and ask for Jurrian of course!

That is for an ///M, he has a 328....it will never sound like that sadly. If you live in a state with strict emissions then you most likely won't want to get headers. In that case you should get the UUC TSE3, it's the best sounding exhausts for our cars without headers

Im just looking for the sound not performance muffler (sorry i meant to mention that) i just want a muffler that sounds aggressive. Im not looking to buy a whole cat back system and add on power. Ive decided to only cosmetically modify my car. Its not worth performance upgrading this type of car. I rather get an M3 for performance, but this is my daily driver so =~\ i got to suck it up.
