back from being on honeymoon overseas. No car updates but I do have some fun updates. I was able to meet up with some real CSL owners and talk to them what it was like to own the car and what they do for fun across the pond. Wish I had longer to chat with them but did not want to bore the wife to tears. I will make a thread of the travels but here are the pics I got of the real CSL’s. I have a little tweaking to mine to match it up better to the real ones.

NOTE: These CSL did have AC and Radios. Seems most have creature comforts and only a few were the “hardcore ones”

One thing I don't understand OP, why are you putting the CSL badge on the back, and now on the plate? You must understand that you can't possibly convert your car to a real CSL, and therefore the badge has no business being on it. It's a US-spec e46 M3 with CSL parts. If someone comes up to you and asks if it's a real M3 CSL, your answer should always be 'no.' It will never be 'yes' until you import a real one with the little plaque.

I don't mean to troll on your parade here, but the car is so nice, and the one little badge totally ruins it for me.

Re: M3Dragon - NorCal CSL build

I would consider it a "USA Spec" CSL . Has all components of a csl

To answer / respond to your post.

1. I never tell anyone it is real. I tell them it as real as we can get in the states and then some.
2. You are incorrect that you can't convert a US M3 to a real one. You can do everything but some of the changes are waste as well as some are impracticable.
3. My car is more a CSL than Fern's (daytonaviolet) as I did the full cams and airbox conversion where he has not.
4. The badge is a vanity mod as stated and some will love it or hate it.
5. Not all CSL's came with plaques as a FYI. The plaque does not make a CSL, all the components do.

Everyone will have their opinion so no offense taken. As for the link to Fern's car, everyone will compare a CSL conversion to his as he was one of the first to do so. I have kept my car OE where it was needed and did upgrades that a CSL owner could do. About the only thing that is not close is the interior but that is because I wanted to be different.

Sorry that a badge makes you hate the car but with every place, some will love it and some will hate it. As with your car, some love you slammed it and some will say you ruined your car. Personally I am not a fan but would not go out of my way to say so.

I had two more items from my UK trip that I thought I would share with everyone. First is a few pics of some rare cars and the second is of the Evolve guys. I know most of you want me to post the Evolve visit first but you have to wait LOL.

Ok here are some images from London. Dealers there had a BMW M3 GTS, Art Mini, BMW I 8, BMW I 3 frame, and Aston Martin Zagato.

When the wife and I were on honeymoon in the UK we took a day a went up to visit the guys at Evolve. We took the train up from London and meet Imran at the train station. We got a ride to the shop in his crazy E39 M5. The car sounded amazing and what little he stepped on the gas it pulled like a freight train. Would have loved to see what it would do unleashed.

We spent the morning at Evolve talking to Imran, Sal and Riz about cars, the M3, 1M, and how they test cars yada yada. We also talked to them about how they got into cars, their family, and how they started evolve. It was very interesting to hear about their path to get evolve where it is today and their backgrounds. If you ever get over to the UK, it is worth the trip to see the shop (not overly exciting as I excepted) and talk to the guys.

While we were there they had several customer cars there in for software tuning. One was an E46 M3 that had a aftermarket CSL airbox installed. This airbox was one of the 4 companies that make a replica box (can't remember which one sorry). Riz and Sal spent the morning working on the E46 to resolve a install issue and load a evolve power tune. The box looked descent but the air temp sensor was in a spot that gets heat soaked so when they dynode the car it was lower on power than a real or quality replica. Sal showed me and the customer the data maps and how he changes the files. The software is pretty cool as it displays data in a 3d model.

Here is the old shop. They just purchased the new shop which is in the same complex but is on the other side of the cul de sac and three times as large.

Some customers cars. The M3 is a individual color car. Not sure which but the interior was white leather and walnut wood grain. No thanks

The customer lounge and the door to the heart of the beast. The red M5 there is in for more power as the customer if I remember correctly blew a gasket. They are going to do some head work to make it a monster car.

Building complex and their project E46 M3 and their super charged E92 M3.

E92 with their super charge kit. The manifold is a far superior design to the ESS one as well as the full setup is super clean. The car can make crazy power as the design puts a lot more out than advertised. They actually have to tone it down as gets to crazy on the road.

The dyno area for testing and all that other fun stuff they do. Also Riz dynoing the customer's car with the CSL airbox replica.

Evolv's project E46 M3 with carbon fiber fenders, hood and gutted interior. They are going back to a OE hood Imran said as the fit-mit of the Carbon fiber is not stellar. Note these are not Evolves parts.

Riz and Sal trying to figure out the replica airbox power issue. The gentleman and I are watching them tossing some ideas out. The gentleman in the plad shirt (forgot his name DOH) was there in his E92 M3 to have it dyno tuned as he just got exhaust installed.

It was a fun visit up there and I got to know more about the guys and the shop that programs my car. Sal is definitely a hoot to talk to about his philosophy on cars. Imran is definitely the grounded one and Riz is the sarcastic tech. The combo works as evident in their products and I hope they continue to support the enthusiast's community.
