Resurrecting e46 M3 - newest family member with motor damage

Just picked up a beautiful project car in need of a defib. to bring her back to life!

Sad to see such a beauty sitting in the garage and not out strutting its stuff but I'm excited to get her back on the road!!!

First official picture, sitting in the garage awaiting parts. (Missed the opportunity to snap a picture of her on the trailer).

Too bad the big brake kit wasn't still on the car when I got her... Although, not necessary, those Brembos looked beautiful behind them BBS's

Awesome! You going to keep this as a live journal?

Do you know what exactly is wrong with it? S54 so my mind goes straight to VANOS & rod bearings

I sure am!

As of now, I'm not exactly sure what's wrong with it yet... I just ordered a camshaft timing tool set, which came in today and I have my mechanic tearing into it to assess the damages and root cause of failure.

So far, all I know is that the timing chain most definitely jumped and busted the valve cover.

Ah, looking forward to following the thread, hope you can keep it updated with details! We've got a few S54 powered cars in our lot so this will be particularly interesting to follow.

Resurrecting e46 M3 - newest family member with motor damage

Finally getting around to posting some updates... Not much as of now but one thing is for certain, one of the oil pump tabs from the Exhaust Hub has broke causing the timing chain to jump and bust the valve cover. It also appears that the guides have busted and most-likely caused a little more internal damage - will know more once we tear into the motor a little further.
Praying for no bent valves!

Resurrecting e46 M3 - newest family member with motor damage

Now that it's cold and rainy/snowy again, I have some time to update this thread and give a quick recap of this past week so far....

Over the weekend, we finally had some pretty good weather (low 60's - I'll take it). It was a very short-lived heatwave... That being said, I had a really good reason for not keeping you up-to-date as to what was going on - I was cruising all around town, all day and all night!!!

My mechanic (older brother), surprised me when he met me at chipotle with my, running M3!

Apparently, while I was waiting for the Exhaust hub from DrVanos.com to come in, he had been working on everything else around it. I dropped off the part Friday afternoon and by Saturday around noon, she was alive!!!!

I was hoping to make this a live journal of the progress as it came together but I guess that would have ruined the surprise.

Sooooooo, now that I got my story out of the way, here are the long awaited progress pictures he took along the way:

Upper guide rail and upper tensioner side rail broken.
