I can't believe what these weigh - Sportline CS.16 - CSL Style wheel Content

These Sportline CS.16 wheels have been released for a while now, they've been hard to keep in stock because of their popularity as a spun cast/flow formed set of CSL style wheels, great for lightweight track use. What do you guys think?

unfortunately they aren't as light as the apex arc-8's almost 3 pounds heavier for the 9.5 et 22.. they do look very good though

Anybody can make light wheels, just use less metal. That's what the Kosei K1's do; they weigh nothing, but they flex a lot and usually end up breaking after some years of hard use.

Now if you can prove these CSL replicas are light and strong, then you'll have something impressive to show off. Some motorsports championships to further prove the point doesn't hurt either. Otherwise, they are just another set of chinese/taiwanese made CSL replicas that use less aluminum than BMW OE. Those are my thoughts.

Clearly they are light which is pretty impressive but as mkdoma pointed out how strong are they and what type of metals was used to make these wheels?

True yes, but the price for teh ARC-8's are about $300-$400 more I believe. 18"s are only $949 at this point in time.

You make a very valid point which I'd like to touch on of course. Yes they are lightweight, using Flow Forming just like Apex is doing for their wheels as well, or some TSW wheels for that matter, and Forgestar. Here's some information to help that point:

Of course if you're an engineer and you can make due with this as well, here's what I also have from Sportline:

Load rating on the wheels of course is over 1520lbs, which is right amongst the same load rating that BBS has for their flow formed wheels as well. And more importantly, APEX ARC-8's have the same 690KG load rating from what I've heard

Better response than expected.

The von mises stress picture is kinda useless though without knowing the fixturing, loads, and material properties. It does show that the highest stress place is at the wheel bolts during that sort of loading.

Looks like you are indeed an engineer lol... I got the same response on M3forum about that von mises stress picture, and unfortunately I don't know the additional info required to really read it, but they weren't ashamed of at least showing that photo to the public.

Thanks though, I'm glad I cleared up some things for you there

Just had these put on yesterday. Love them. Modbargains did a great job on the install and Elliott was really helpful while I was deciding what wheels I wanted. Definitely going to be back for more mods soon!

Have these been superseded by the 8s?
